The exhibition shifts attention away from the finished form and toward the process of artistic creation - emphasizing action, continuous transformation, and a conception of creation as a self-sustaining phenomenon rather than an act driven solely by a final outcome. Within this process, particular significance is given to everyday labor the often-unseen effort that plays a decisive role in shaping form.

In this light, the transformation of space becomes a central gesture: the artist brings her private working environment into the exhibition setting, subtly redefining both the function and the meaning of the space itself.

Please join us today for the opening of Karma, Keti Kapanadze’s first solo exhibition at its Berlin space from 18:00 to 20:00 at 156 Kurfürstenstraße, Berlin.

Kapanadze is one of the key figures of contemporary Georgian art, whose practice played a decisive role in the formation and development of conceptual art within the local context. She belongs to the generation that emerged during the Soviet period and shaped an artistic language beyond official ideological discourse.

Keti Kapanadze’s humorous beings, entities situated somewhere between humans and elementary particles, allude to the origin of our beginning. Regardless of the medium, all her works are characterized by a lightness in which humor and seriousness are interwoven. Depicted as faces or molecular connections, they point back to the question of origin: to a fundamental property of our world - a cycle of entropy in which matter shifts from one state to another, dissolving every atom and every cell into disorder each second.

We are pleased to share that, ahead of Tamo Jugeli’s forthcoming exhibition ‘From 5–7’ at Polina Berlin Gallery and Karma, W Magazine visited the artist in her East Williamsburg studio.

Jacoba Urist writes: “Unlike many abstract artists, who typically start at the center of a composition, establishing a focal point and then building outward, Jugeli begins at the edge of the canvas with an initial mark or stroke and then radiates inward. Rotating the works on the floor as she goes, her process is completely instinctive: no sketches, studies, stencils, or templates... ‘There are no themes and there’s no research,’ says Jugeli... ‘My paintings are pure action. When I come into the studio, I have absolutely no idea what I will do. That’s my high. They are experiments every day.’”

Tamo Jugeli: ‘From 5 to 7’ opens Wednesday, March 18, from 5–8 pm at Polina Berlin Gallery and Karma’s 188 East 2nd Street location.

Nina Kintsurashvili’s solo exhibition Creature, Creatures features a new body of work that continues Kintsurashvili’s research-based painterly practice, in which fragments of memory, misremembered shapes, and cultural residues are layered, erased, overwritten, and reimagined across the canvas. Her compositions unfold through an ongoing act of building and dismantling, treating painting not as a site of representation but as one of construction—an active space where images emerge through gesture, formal tension, repetition, and revision.

Although abstract in its visual language, her practice draws on a wide range of visual references that resurface from different cultural and historical contexts. Remote rural landscapes marked by prehistoric archaeological sites, visited while the artist worked as a long-distance trekking guide; Byzantine iconography; and remnants of Soviet visual culture encountered in Tbilisi’s second-hand book dealers (bukinists) form parts of her personal vocabulary that often appear across her canvases as monumentalized fragments, influencing individual formal decisions in each painting. Objects and artifacts often serve her process of image-making as a human model would serve a figurative painter, or a landscape to a plein-air artist. Through constant layering, erasing, and rebuilding—in a process of what Deleuze calls ‘a catastrophe in painting’—new images and environments emerge, uncontained by the canvas.

Last three days to see Koka Vashakidze’s exhibition ‘Daughters of Maro: Chronicles of Georgian Women’s Political Resistance 2024–2025’.

Daughters of Maro is an archive-based spatial work that responds to the ongoing protest movements in Georgia during 2024–2025. The project presents women’s political resistance within the context of contemporary Georgian reality through a documentary lens.

The multimedia installation invites viewers to reflect on Georgia’s recent political developments from the perspective of women’s resistance not merely as a chronological sequence of protests, but as a process through which resistance gradually takes on a distinctly feminine form. By employing an archival framework, the work explores how this form emerges over time and how a collective portrait of women’s political resistance is formed through the convergence of diverse personal experiences.

We are delighted to share with you installation views of Ana Gzirishvili’s solo exhibition at the SculptureCenter part of In Practice.

For her solo exhibition at SculptureCenter, Ana Gzirishvili presents a new group of sculptures made from expanses of leather that she wets, stretches, and tightly wraps around handmade frames and across assemblages. Once dry, she peels them from their molds, resulting in stiff reliefs that register partial impressions.⁠

Recent research has led the artist to the “skin ego,” a psychoanalytic idea elaborated by Didier Anzieu (1923-1999) that compares the physical containment of the body (under skin) to the psychic containment of the self. Her works exhibited at SculptureCenter processes this idea in the form of tough animal skins (and, newly, light-colored fabrics) that wind and wrap around unseen cores, that pick up traces of things, and convey a sensation of overuse, collapse, and wear—the self-protective sensing membrane breached, exposed, and altered by its environment.⁠
