Meteor NF14 WS788 Award Winning Restoration Project A page to record and share news of the Yorkshire Air Museum's Armstrong Whitworth Meteor restoration. Meteor NF(T).14 WS788. It's not just about WS788 for us!

As a bonus for our followers we also share on here our work on any other old aircraft types we get to assist with! The aircraft was built at Baginton, Coventry, in February 1954. In July 1954, it was issued to 152 Squadron at Wattisham. It served with the No.2 Air Navigation School at Thorney Island and later at No.1 School at Stradishall, where it was damaged in an accident. In January 1966, it w

as allocated for ground instructional use. In June 1967, WS788 was moved to Patrington Radar Station near Spurn Point, East Yorkshire, as a static display aircraft. When Patrington closed, it was moved to Leeming, North Yorkshire, to be the Station Gate Guard. It was brought to Elvington in 1991 and has been displayed there in 152 Squadron colours ever since. After 24 years museum display it is time to restore the jet to her former glory! We also look after 788's half sister, Meteor F.8 WL168, and muck in on other museum aircraft when needed. Airing our dirty laundry in public! Some NOS cloth RBF warning pennants arrived today. Though new, they have picked up storage grime over the decades, so I've given them a wash and hung them on the line before they make their way to the museum to use on the Meteors.
Not sure the boss is going to be too pleased when she notices these on the line though..!

I had a fruitful morning, on the road early to see our friends Lyndon and Joe Blackburne and look at some classic jet spares. Always a pleasure to spend time with those generous gents!

YAM Thunder Day event; obviously 788 herself isn't in a position to participate yet, but her team are! We work as part of the Ni**od/Jet Provost teams also, and today has been a very successful day. 2 very good engine runs of the JP (myself in the RH seat for one; cheers Adam!), and a full engine run on on the Ni**od, with both aircraft behaving pretty much perfectly.
