About The Wrong Font
The Wrong Font is a free detective game for your browser, set in the back rooms of Victorian print shops. Each case begins with a forged or threatening note. Metal type wears, chips and gets dropped, and no two shops' type ever wears the same way, so every note carries the fingerprint of the case it was set from. Your job is to compare it with specimen sheets from the suspects and name the shop that printed it.
There are nine cases in three acts. In Act I, Apprentice, you spot letters that sit high, sit low, lean or print faint. Act II, Journeyman, adds dated specimen sheets, capitals and numerals, and the difference between a flawed sort and a badly inked press. In Act III, Master, you face foul cases with sorts from the wrong typeface, borrowed type shared between two shops, and a final forgery that combines everything. Later cases take away hints and letter boxes and give you only one accusation.
You earn up to three stars per case for solving it with few wrong accusations and few hints. Your progress is saved in your browser, no account is needed, and you can copy your results as BBCode to share on a forum.
