A centuries-old tradition at England’s most northerly wh**ky distillery.

Last week, we welcomed the Worshipful Company of Distillers for a ceremonial inspection.

Founded by Royal Charter in 1638, the Company gained powers to regulate distilling around the City of London. Their visit brought this historic practice some 300 miles beyond its original boundaries to Wooler.

Here, the Company reviewed our production practices and sampled our spirit. Following the inspection, we were presented with a formal certificate confirming that we meet their standards.

A proud moment for our team to receive recognition from one of the oldest institutions in the spirits trade.

Each cask carries something of its previous life, creating new possibilities as it meets the wh**ky.

For this latest release, our standard bearer has spent nine months finishing in Oloroso Hogshead.

With roots in southern Spain, these casks hold layers of dried fruit, nuttiness and spice. Already part of the original Tácnbora’s maturation story, this dedicated finish allows us to explore that influence further.

Bottled at 57.2% ABV, our new Limited Edition is available to purchase from today.

By experimenting with wood, we uncover new expressions of Tácnbora.

Our latest Limited Edition, Tácnbora Oloroso Hogshead Cask Finish, is now available to pre-order for Corenkyn and Corengyst members, ahead of its public release on 16 October.

Expect notes of chocolate, hazelnut and spice, followed by figs, cinder toffee and a warm finish of cedar and bitter cocoa.

What makes the North East so special?

The people.

It’s something we heard time and again from last year’s Tácnbora Tour and Awards participants. The kindness, hard work and generosity that shape our region.

Nominations are now open for the 2027 awards until 2 November.

If you know an individual or community group making a difference, help us share their story.

Who is your community’s Standard Bearer?

Nominations open today for our second Tácnbora Tour and Awards, celebrating the people and groups who make a difference across the North East.

Tácnbora means ‘Standard Bearer’ in Old English, and we’re looking for those who carry that spirit into their communities today. The person who always brings people together, the volunteers who keep a much-loved group going, or someone whose kindness makes life a little better for others.

Following the inspiring stories shared during our first Tour, we’re ready to discover more of the people who make our region special. The 2027 awards will recognise both an individual and a community group for their contribution.

If someone comes to mind, help us tell their story. Nominate your community’s Standard Bearer and give them the recognition they deserve.

Find out more and nominate: https://adgefrin.co.uk/whats-on/tacnbora-tour

Nominations close on the 2nd November.

Wh**ky can sometimes seem intimidating, but it doesn’t need to be.

Join us for our Introduction to Wh**ky sessions, launching on 3 October.

Guided by one of our in-house experts, you’ll enjoy an arrival cocktail before tasting three different wh**ky styles. Learn how to recognise their character, discover what suits your palate and bust some common myths.

No jargon. Just good spirits, good conversation and a chance to find what you enjoy.

Well done to Thomas from our kitchen team!

He was part of the Newcastle heat final of the Young Chef of the Year competition.

It’s a testament to his passion, creativity and craft, qualities he brings to Bēodern every week.

We’re proud to see him showcase his talent and be involved in such a great experience.

Some exciting news from our part of Northumbria…

St Cuthbert’s Way has been named by Lonely Planet as one of the best long-distance walks in the world for 2027.

And if you’re walking it, you’ll find Ad Gefrin right here on the route as you pass through Wooler.

The 62-mile trail from Melrose to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne takes you through a landscape deeply connected to St Cuthbert and the Golden Age of Northumbria.

It’s a route we’ve welcomed some familiar faces from too, with Ashley Banjo stopping off at Ad Gefrin during filming for BBC’s Pilgrimage.

A stop at Ad Gefrin is a chance to discover more about the world Cuthbert knew and the story of seventh-century Northumbria, before continuing towards the coast.
