We had a fabulous time playing host to another of Alison’s excellent talk and taste events last night.
In addition to the delicious food, our guests had the opportunity to view Dickens’ manuscript of Great Expectations; a first edition copy of Martin Chuzzlewit; first editions of Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, and Pride and Prejudice, and a collected works of Chaucer from the 16th century. As Alison recited one of Thackeray’s poems about curry, our statuette of him watched over.
What a treat!

We are looking for new Directors to join our Board and help guide the future of one of the region’s most remarkable museums.

If you have an interest in the history and heritage of Wisbech and Fenland and would like to play a part in caring for collections of local, national, and international importance, we would love to hear from you.

This is a voluntary role, involving quarterly Board meetings, alongside occasional time spent at the Museum and on its behalf. Previous experience as a trustee or director is helpful, but not essential.

Experience in commerce, retail, or business operations would be particularly valuable.

Applicants must be 18 or over.

📦 51 packages. More than 15 tons. Two huge wagons.

In December 1868, two large wagons arrived in Wisbech carrying the first of two deliveries of material left to the Museum by the Rev. Chauncy Hare Townshend.

This extraordinary bequest would become the most significant in the Museum’s history, transforming our collections forever.
