Windsor & Royal Borough Museum explores the history of the Royal Borough through an audio trail of stories told by local residents about their lives and the changing landscape of Windsor. The museum offers a look into our unique and varied collection, from our 100,000 year old Mammoth tusk to a model of a Hawker Hurricane, the plane designed by Windsor-born Sir Sydney Camm. Online resources, inclu
ding downloadable worksheets, quizzes and videos highlighting objects in the collection are available by visiting www.windsormuseum.org.uk. Visitors can also help the museum to record the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the community by donating items to ‘The Royal Borough Memory Box’. This historic project invites you to contribute your photographs, videos, artwork, stories and any items that represent your personal experiences of life during the pandemic and in lockdown. Throughout her reign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II used Windsor Castle as both an official residence and a private home. She supported many local charities in the Royal Borough and enjoyed attending local events, including the Royal Windsor Horseshow and Royal Ascot.

Nobody will be allowed into St. George’s Chapel or the Castle grounds without a valid entry ticket for Windsor Castle (usual entry route via the ticket office).
Our thoughts are with His Majesty The King and the Royal Family as we mark this first anniversary of the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We give thanks for an incredible life of tireless duty and selfless service. She will always have a fond place in our hearts.

At Eton Dorney in 2012, Helen Glover & Heather Stanning won Team GB's first gold meal of the 2012 London Olympics. It was also the first ever British Olympic gold medal to be won in women's rowing.

📣🎄🐴🎄Last of Windsor Castle Carriage Tours trips on The Long Walk tomorrow and they have two availabilities remaining at 11am and 2pm. You can book your ticket at the Royal Windsor Information Centre inside the museum. We are open 10-4pm tomorrow.

On Wednesday evening the Museum & Information Centre hosted day 14 of the Windsor and Eton Living Advent Calendar in the Council Chamber The Windsor Guildhall.
We performed a true story (in the stye of Miranda - to add some humour) of how two little girls came to acquire a green glass bauble from the top of Queen Victoria's Christmas Tree.

These windows commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2012. They were unveiled by Her Majesty on 29 November 2013 at The Windsor Guildhall
The two windows show four of the Royal residences – Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Sandringham and Balmoral.
The Royal Albert Institute commissioned the windows to be made by Artemis Glass (who are based locally in Staines).
In the four corners of each window you can see Queen Victoria’s famous Albert Brooch which was handed down to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We are delighted to be able to display these Royal Hearts. We’re open 10am - 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday. They are beautiful and are literally everywhere in the gallery 💜

This portrait hangs in the Ascot Room at The Windsor Guildhall. It was painted by Theodore Ramos to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002.
She is wearing a blue sapphire brooch, known as the Albert Brooch. The brooch was a gift from Prince Albert to Queen Victoria the day before their wedding.
It has been handed down to Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and was given to Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 when she became Queen.
A Princess or Queen? How can you tell the difference? We believe that this portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which is hung in the Council Chamber at The Windsor Guildhall was painted before she became Queen as she is wearing a Princess’s tiara, not a crown.
It would have taken a number of years to complete the painting. We think the artist added the Order of the Garter blue sash and Garter Star onto the existing painting after she became Queen.
This portrait was painted by Denis Fildes and gifted to the Royal Borough Civic Collection in 1955.
More than 100,000 people visited Windsor as the town hosted the Procession and Committal Service for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We’d like to thank those who have visited Windsor over recent days to pay their respects, as well as everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure proceedings were observed smoothly and with dignity.
