MEET THE ARTIST
Soozy Barker is a celebrated published artist, based in Eton, Berkshire. She is notable for her captivating abstract work.
As a child, Soozy would spend hours watching her father, Jon, paint in his studio, familiarising herself with his classical techniques and practicing until she soon developed her own contemporary style and methods.
“My art reflects nature and memories of my childhood. From skating on our frozen pond in the winter to seeking shade from the Indian summers under our willow tree, I spent countless hours watching nature dance in the wind and shapes reflect on the water. I now incorporate this imagery in my work, because to me, nature is art. It’s one giant abstract canvas”
“I use a mixture of mediums and tools for my pieces to achieve my unique signature style.”
Soozy is predominantly commissioned for original pieces and works personally with her clients to achieve their vision for private and corporate collections, throughout the UK and worldwide.
Prints are available to purchase from Wayfair and Next Home.
Clients include Anna Friel, Frank Gardener, Nick Robinson, Starbucks, British Credit Trust, Tower Leasing, European Land and The Crown Estate.

MEET THE ARTIST
We are absolutely thrilled to introduce Daniel Hooper as our newest artist! Some of Daniel’s stunning pieces will be available on our stand at . DM us for more details and complimentary tickets!
Daniel Hooper was born in Wi******er and after studying at the prestigious Westgate School and enjoying a brief “art phase”, his artistic flair and creative eye remained, as he embarked upon a career in carpentry, which led him to extensively travel Europe, nurturing his skills and refining his knowledge that would subsequently assist him in creating unique works of art.
During respite from his work as a talented carpenter, Hooper would utilise surplus paint and remnants from construction sites for his pieces, marking the origin of his signature style of painting on wood. Drawing inspiration from his surroundings, Hooper depicts a world forged by elemental forces of nature. Focusing on the environment and movement, such as birds in flight or marine creatures in water, he traverses between realism and abstraction, displaying an instinctive approach, as untamed and energetic as the natural world his pieces portray. “Nature is all around us, we just don’t see it,” explains Hooper, who stresses the importance of going back to basics in a distracting, modern world.
His earliest work was promptly noticed by The Discerner magazine, which led to Hooper imminently becoming a featured Saatchi artist. Painting with uninhibited vigour and freedom, Hooper made the challenging transition from raw materials to traditional canvas to make his pieces more accessible to a broader audience. When creating his artwork, he still invokes techniques from his construction background. By initially painting in blocks, he slowly and competently builds up layers of paint to add movement and vitality to the finished piece. Hooper continues to work on canvas, but occasionally returns to his roots, working with timber and reclaimed materials, showcasing his dedication to creating powerful and unique pieces with soul.

MEET THE ARTIST
Jon Barker, founder of The Barker Gallery, is the first of our artists whose work is coming up to Edinburgh with us for this week!
Born in Yorkshire in 1950, Jon has been a professional artist for over 20 years, following an earlier career in marketing management.
Jon is best known for his 'City Life' series which is published extensively, but he also enjoys painting the occasional seascape and landscape, which allows for freedom of expression and the opportunity to experiment with new techniques.
"Historically my ‘City Life’ series has aimed to capture the moods and atmospheres of major cities of the world such as New York, Paris and London. Iconic landmarks often feature prominently within these compositions and help to establish a sense of place and familiarity.
Recently I have experimented with new ways to apply paint to canvas. In doing so, I have been able to introduce abstract qualities to the paint surface which has invigorated my approach. Iconic buildings and people still form the basis for the compositions but the treatment is more adventurous. The subject matter remains important but the real essence of the work is in the relationships between colour and form and in the varied ways in which the paint is handled."
Jon works from his studio in Cyprus where he lives with his wife Katie.
