“My paintings are based on the disruption of digital videos taken from the internet. I exploit the underlying structure of these movies in order to explore the shape-shifting qualities of the digital world, foregrounding its illusory effects and their influence on our idea of truth and what lies beyond the screen.

I’m interested in reversing the process of digitisation, by transforming immaterial subjects from cyberspace into physical paintings. There’s a sense of truth about a physical object, you can stand in front of it, and it has substance and gravity. In that sense, I aim to highlight the fact that the screen is just a performance, something that is fleeting and transient, whereas a painting is solid and reliable - something that lasts and can be lived with and enjoyed permanently.”

RVP Gallery Wilmslow

This autumn saw the opening of a new contemporary art gallery in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The Ricardo Van Parmar Gallery opened its doors on Alderley Road in October and had a formal launch party in November where clients and new visitors had the opportunity to meet Ricardo and many of his featured artists.

Ricardo, who has worked in the art world for 5 years, brings a breath off fresh air to the art scene in Cheshire. Commenting on the launch, he said “I’m really excited to bring a whole new art experience to Wilmslow. My approach is really personal and unfussy. I like to make connections with my clients and to find out what art excites them.”

The gallery extends to 3 floors, including a private lounge on the top floor. It currently features an impressive array of paintings and sculpture from some of the best up-and-coming and established artists, including:


  • Halima Cassell, a sculptor of intricate geometric forms, is currently enjoying a popular run of her exhibition at the Manchester Art Gallery called ‘Eclectica’ that lasts until January 2020;
