Before & After: Clearing the Way at Haig Colliery! ⛏️✨

What a difference a bit of hard work makes! 🛠️

I’ve been busy working around the base of the iconic headframe at the Haig Colliery Heritage Centre. Swipe through to see the dramatic before-and-after transformation:

⬅️ BEFORE: Overgrown weeds, temporary fencing, old storage tanks, and skips cluttering the area around the structure.

➡️ AFTER: A completely cleared, level, and open site that finally lets our landmark headframe stand tall and proud as it should!

Restoring and preserving this important piece of local industrial heritage is a continuous journey, but milestones like this show just how far things have come.

A massive thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far—whether by sending words of encouragement or stopping by for a brew and a bite at the Haig Pit Bakehouse! ☕🍰

Looking straight up from the depths of Whitehaven’s mining history. Months, years, and entire lifetimes were spent beneath this very ironwork.

There’s something incredibly haunting—yet beautiful—about the view the miners saw every time they finally hit the surface.

🌱 Freshly cut and looking sharp! 🚜

The sun is out, the skies are blue, and I've spent the day on the mower getting the grounds at Haig Colliery Heritage Centre looking immaculate.

Step by step, the site is being tidied up and looking proud. There’s still plenty of hard work ahead, but seeing the iconic pit head framed by a freshly mowed lawn makes a long day's graft completely worth it.
