Maggie Brown

We're delighted to have some select pieces by Maggie Brown in our current exhibition.

Based in West Wales, Maggie Brown is essentially a landscape painter, but sometimes likes to challenge herself with a new subject matter.

With the same energy that she applies to her landscape paintings, she paints and draws with acrylics and oil pastels on top of the already prepared, dried, textured surface, which is a mixture of sand, shavings and glue.

'HOME FRONT' runs until 19th September.

Its rather grey outside today, but not in the gallery. It's a treat to have some vibrant new pieces from Pete Monaghan in our current exhibition.

"These works are a departure from my usual paintings which draw upon vernacular architecture. Instead I have used a pink crockery set (and some doughnuts) as a still life set-up to both challenge and excite.”

Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy Pete's works, followers of his work will know that he rarely exhibits on the Wirral. So do drop in and enjoy the work up close, away from the screen!

Pete has a background in (technical) illustration. He fuses mixed-media and graffiti influences. Pete works from a studio in Aberystwyth, west Wales. He holds an MA in Fine Art from Aberystwyth University.

If you'd love to own one of our lovely former gallery partner's artworks, now is the time to visit! Clare Flinn's beautiful still life paintings are on the gallery walls until 19th September in 'Home Front'

Clare comes from a family of painters where Still Life is somewhat of a preoccupation. Her painting is rooted in a figurative tradition (and more usually a landscape one too) but she enjoys nothing better than the setting up of a still life composition (a miniature landscape in effect) and then painting from the reference in front of her in her loose, painterly style. Colour and light are central in her thinking about her subject.

Since graduating in 2015 from Wirral Metropolitan College with a degree in fine art, she has worked as an artist and teacher, exhibiting around the UK. She has just left The Lake Gallery partnership to relocate to Devon.

We're delighted to welcome Anna Clark Anna Clark back to the gallery for HOME FRONT.

"The inspiration for my pieces in this exhibition has come from the detail of domestic life – glimpses of day to day places and objects which reflect the backcloth of people’s lives (including my own). "

Anna's work combines a number of processes including print, collage, drawing and paint. She likes to build up layers progressively, adding an element of chance which can result in the unexpected reframing of familiar views and objects.

Pop in and enjoy Anna's work every Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am to 4pm.

LAST CHANCE to enjoy our Summer Show, which closes at 4pm today!

Huge thanks to everyone who has visited...from far and wide. Its wonderful to see that our small seaside town is attracting so many visitors and we're proud to be one of West Kirby's many independent small businesses.

** EXHIBITION NEWS ** . It's all change next week with a new exhibition opening on Thursday 13th August.

In 'Home Front' four artists celebrate the domestic and the beauty of the world in our homes and gardens.

We will be welcoming Clare Flinn and Anna Clark back to the gallery. Both have been working on new collections which we're excited to be showing in this exhibition.

We're also delighted to be showing selected pieces by Pete Monaghan and Maggie Brown.

Private view is next Thursday between 6 and 8pm and we'd love you to join us to celebrate the opening
