Whitewater Contemporary Gallery is one of Cornwall's most beautiful and inspiring art galleries. We don't like to stand still.

Situated on the seafront in Polzeath, the gallery shows work by leading contemporary artists in Cornwall and the UK. Whitewater Gallery in Polzeath officially opened on 31 March 2012 and is open throughout the year. Nick,who is well known among Cornwall's surfing fraternity for his surf photographs on the 360 Photography website and Suki's excellent paintings are both on sale; but as the couple say "It is not just about us, we have wonderful, hard-working artists who exhibit with us, some of whom were already established and others who started with us and have now evolved into acknowledged artists with successful careers. We want to keep developing and make sure we create an atmosphere which benefits our customers and artists". May 2015 will see the opening of the second Whitewater Gallery in Port Isaac.

This new collection by Heidi Archer is inspired by time spent on the North and South Coast of Cornwall during the hot summer of 2026. It draws on the familiar topography of the Atlantic shoreline, with its hidden harbours, moored fishing boats and remote sea view cottages.

SALLY SPENS studied Textiles and Fine Art at Goldsmiths College and went on to work as a textile designer in London, New York and Japan. In 2018 and 2022 she undertook art residencies at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, and in 2022 she was invited to exhibit during the Venice Art Biennale. Her work is held in the Public Collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and the Changsha University, Hunan province, China. She lives and works in Cornwall.

SIMEON STAFFORD s widely regarded as one of the country's leading living artists. In his distinctive and delightfully naïve style, he is known for capturing the lively detail of people and places, whether it be busy city streets, holiday beaches, or Alpine slopes.

SIMON HAWKES uses the critically endangered heritage craft of ‘raising’, an ancient metalsmithing technique in which a flat piece of copper sheet is hammered over a steel stake and gradually formed into a vessel. Simon draws much of his inspiration from a love of the landscape. His recent Coastal Cave collection is inspired by the form, colour and texture of a hidden cave on the South West coastal path.

FEATURED ARTIST | SALLY SPENS | PRINTMAKER

This new collection by printmaker Sally Spens showcases the beauty of copper plate etching, and takes us on a journey from West Cornwall to the coast of northern Italy.
It explores environments which bring art and nature together, inspired by the sculpture gardens of Cornwall, and Venice during its famous Biennale, when the city becomes a garden of artwork. Inspirations include the Hepworth Garden in St Ives, Terence Coventry's sculpture garden on the Lizard Peninsula, and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice, presenting a survey of the artist's response to two inspiring locations which are known for their natural beauty and their importance to the history of art.

Sculptor Terence Coventry returned to his first passion of sculpture after decades of farming above Coverack in Cornwall, going on to create a sculpture park in meadows on his land. The park is extraordinary, and has inspired so many artists and sculptors.
