This is a textured acrylic painting on board of a wild hillside nearby. Sadly this has just been planted with young fir trees, so all the colour and wildlife I find there now will gradually disappear and ranks of dark conifers will blanket the place. DiaryA cold, wet Spring has not hindered the grow...

The cover photo is of a painting on the solway near Caerlaverock. Criffel is often shrouded in cloud and was this day. The winter colours were still much evident with a few geese still lingering.

This is a study of Autumn colours and lichened stone d***s at Wadsley Common on the edge of Sheffield. The common has played an important role locally for centuries, providing grazing, fuel, timber and hurdles for generations of cottagers as well as pit props and tool handles for industry and the mines. The remains of ganister mines, a material used to line furnaces for the iron and steel industry are still evident . Sandstone was also quarried.
Now the common plays a different role. It has evolved into a largely wooded heathland, with a network of footpaths popular with walkers, dogs and joggers. It is still possible to find quiet places of tranquility away from the main paths and the place is alive with squirrels and birds. The lichen- covered d***s are very beautiful

I love the shore that lies between Kirkandrews. and Carrick. On fine days the Isle of Man sparkles like a jewel, and seems so close. The coast road winds along up and down, with fantastic wind-pruned hawthorns laong the way. This is a view of the road one sunny day not so long ago.
This painting plus many other fine pieces of work including ceramics, cards and prints will be on show at the DAGFAS
'On the Road' show at the Harbour Cottage Gallery from friday 29th March - 13th April. The gallery is open daily so do please come and see our work!

Have been working hard in the studio just lately on some winter scenes . This winter landscape seemed to work well. There are a few small herds of roe in this area which I often see, usually in groups of two or three. there were more in this view seen as a thaw set in after the last snowfall.

The Artist

Winter Colours

Sheena McCurrach is an artist who strongly connects with the landscape around her. The colours, flora and fauna that are featured in her work have a timeless presence here . Her paintings resonate with sensitivity to her surroundings and suggest much more than the visual. Sheena is now based in rural mid-Wales .
