To keep making art, the work has to move.

This is an ink portrait of Sam Grudgings, slam winner and at the time of painting, co-host of Milk Poetry. It was painted in 2018 and has since sold.

Selling archive work is one way to sustain an art practice. Commissioning new work is the other. I maintain a transparent model for those commissions by matching my trade to my art.

My day rate to fix a house is £250. My day rate to sit with you and paint your portrait is £250.

The Rate: £250

The Result: A2 unframed ink on archive paper

The Process: In-person sittings to capture the mechanics behind the person

If we want art to survive, we need practical ways to value it. Send a direct message to book a sitting and support the practice.

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS: BOURNEMOUTH & POOLE

Keep Art It is partnering with the Westbourne Rotary Club to bring Rotary Art Live to Jenkins & Sons, and we are looking for local visual artists to round out our lineup!

The Concept:
On June 4th, selected artists (including the brilliant ) will have just 2 hours to complete an original piece of art live. You'll be creating in front of an intimate, engaged crowd of around 70 guests, with live poetry and spoken-word storytelling setting the atmosphere while you work.

The Financial Model:
At the end of the night, works will be sold via a high-stakes silent auction. We are proudly raising money for Dorset Cancer Care (100% of our ticket sales go directly to the cause), but we also believe in supporting our local creative economy.

That’s why participating artists retain 50% of the final auction price for their work, with the remaining 50% going to Dorset Cancer Care.

Event Details:
📍 Jenkins & Sons, Westbourne
📅 June 4th
⏰ 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Live creation from 6-8 PM)

How to Apply:

What do you want to accomplish?
That's the question I was asked yesterday. My answer: I want to tell people's stories. I want to connect with other humans and translate those conversations into portraits.
If you want your story told, get in touch: [email protected]

To keep making art, you have to document the reality of people's lives, without judgment.

This is an ink portrait of Andy Brown. His life involved a gambling addiction, two stints in prison, founding a charity, and eventually becoming an older poet. You cannot capture a history like that without a face-to-face conversation.

Art is an exchange of truths. Sustaining that practice requires a clear, transparent model. I maintain that model by matching my trade to my art.

My day rate to fix a house is £250. My day rate to sit with you, hear your story, and paint your portrait is £250.

The Rate: £250

The Result: A2 unframed ink on archive paper

The Process: In-person sittings to hear your stories

To keep making art, you have to document the people building the stages.

This is an ink portrait of Stephanie Kempson. She is the founder of , a Fringe First winner, and a tireless advocate for access and inclusion in theatre.

Despite her extensive CV, while sitting for this portrait, she called her jumper her "soulmate." We played Rock Paper Scissors to decide if the quote made it into the piece. I lost.

Art is an exchange. Part of sustaining that exchange is being transparent about how it operates. I do that by matching my trade to my art.

My day rate to fix a house is £250. My day rate to paint a portrait is £250.

The Rate: £250

The Result: A2 unframed ink on archive paper

The Process: In-person sitting, honest conversation, and high-stakes Rock Paper Scissors.

If we want art to survive, we need practical ways to value it. Send a direct message to book a sitting and support the practice.

"Keep ART It" is a physical practice, not just a phrase.

This video is an example of what it looks like to find a sustainable way to value that practice. I am merging my trade with my art.

My day rate for fixing a house is £250. I have made that my exact day rate for a portrait commission.

The Rate: £250

The Medium: A2 unframed ink on archive paper

The Method: In-person sittings to capture the essence of the subject

If we want to keep making art, we have to find practical ways to sustain it. This is my current approach.

Watch the video for the full breakdown. Send a direct message to book a sitting.
