*Sir John Barrow Cottage official blue plaque unveiling*

On Friday 19th June (which is Sir John Barrow's birthday!) the Mayor, Cllr Paul Smith and Mr Dennis Batty, Sir John Barrow's great, great, great grandson will unveil the new Town Council blue plaque on the Sir John Barrow cottage at 11am.

The address is Dragley Beck, Ulverston LA12 0HA.

All very welcome to attend!

On 8 May 2026, Lancaster University Confucius Institute was proud to host the world premiere of Ulverston filmmaker Steve Wharton's compelling documentary about John Barrow's trip to China towards the end of the 18th century.

The Confucius Institute welcomed around 50 guests to a special screening of Voyage East at Lancaster University, bringing together students, staff and members of the local community for an evening exploring the historical relationship between Britain and China.

New paint is now finished and we're all tidied up, some new items added to the display, just need some better weather now!

Cottage paintwork much improved, thanks to Ulverston Town Council and a bit of last minute tidying of the garden, we are now open for the season, why not stop by for a visit now the weather has improved!
