From Memories of Mary Lorimer there was a laundry above what used to be Smarts/Beedies paper shop operated by a Miss Knox. Everything was done by hand with an old type mangle, washing tubs and scrubbing boards. She had one girl to help her. A similar laundry was operated in Water Lane by The Eddie Sisters

The portrait is of John Hutcheon, the first Provost of Turriff. We have many of his descendants visiting the museum from all over the world.
