In the 1830s life in villages like Tolpuddle was hard and getting worse. Some fought back by smashing the new threshing machines but this brought harsh punishments. In 1834, farm workers in west Dorset formed a trade union. Unions were lawful and growing fast but six leaders of the union were arrested and sentenced to seven yearsโ€™ transportation for taking an oath of secrecy. A massive protest swe

pt across the country. Thousands of people marched through London and many more organised petitions and protest meetings to demand their freedom.

From Palestine to Sudan to Iran โ€” and the list goes on โ€” imperialism and permanent war are driving chaos across the region. Workers are paying the price: a deepening cost of living crisis, scapegoating of migrants and refugees, rising racism and fascism, climate disasters, and the stateโ€™s attacks on our movements.

But workers and communities are organising, resisting, and building solidarity across borders.
