We’re trying something new at Calgary Gallery this winter - ATLANTIC, an open call for artists and makers.
Inspired by Mull’s coast, wildlife, weather and wild places, the theme is deliberately broad and we’re really looking forward to seeing how different people respond to it.
We’d love to hear from Scottish artists and makers, as well as artists from across the UK, particularly those with a connection to the Isle of Mull, the west coast or the themes of the exhibition. You don’t need to have exhibited with us before.
ATLANTIC runs 14 November–20 December
Submissions close 11 October

A few glimpses of LUNGA, opening this Saturday.

Earlier this year, Andy and Helen Mortley, David Page and Matthew Reade travelled out to Lunga together, and it’s fantastic to see the varied work that has come from that shared experience.

The exhibition includes David’s large paintings inspired by Harp Rock, Andy’s sculptural ceramics including lidded kelp bowls, Helen’s Lunga Rock Bowls with birds eggs painted inside, and Matthew’s new carved pieces, including his Lunga Loveseat, with a razorbill at its centre.

We’re starting to bring everything together in the gallery now, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it all hung in the same space.

Please come and join us for the opening this Saturday, 5 September, from 4–6pm. There’ll be local refreshments and everyone is very welcome.

LUNGA will be on view until 20 September.

LUNGA — Opening 5th September

This September, we’re bringing together new work by Andy and Helen Mortley, David Page and Matthew Reade for LUNGA, a group exhibition inspired by the Treshnish Isles.

Earlier this year, the four travelled to Lunga together, bringing different ideas and observations back to their studios.

Working across ceramics, large-scale abstract painting and carved wooden sculpture, each artist has responded to different aspects of Lunga, from its extraordinary seabird colonies and breeding season to natural forms, history and traces of human presence.

LUNGA runs from 5th – 20th September at Calgary Gallery.

Everyone is welcome to join us for the opening on 5 September, 4–6pm, with refreshments.

Grit and Grace: Iona opens tomorrow at Calgary Gallery.

Award-winning artist David Page presents a new collection inspired by the coast and character of Iona.

Including the large-scale painting Glacial Times, this is a bold new body of work shaped by place and time.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday 9th May, 5–7pm. Everyone is welcome.
