On Thursday 6th August, we will be welcoming a new speaker to the group, Francis Engleheart who will be telling us all about the life and rise to fame of Emma Hart later to become Emma Hamilton. In a detailed and fascinating talk - ‘ Nelson’s Mistress - Emma Hamilton’ (yes, I have heard it before !), Francis will develop her life before our eyes with images and facts that show how her very humble beginnings led to notoriety and acclaim through the people that she met throughout her life including Sir William Hamilton and Sir Joshua Reynolds and George Romney who painted her. Born in 1765 and dying in 1815 she has become as much a part of Nelson’s legacy as her own.
As usual there will be refreshments from 7:00pm with the talk at starting at 7:30pm. There is no need to book a place and visitors can pay on the door but do come early to make sure of a good seat.

This month, hopefully still in ‘flaming June’ on Thursday 4th , we will all be delighted to refresh ourselves with ‘The History of Ice Cream’ as presented in his own inimitable style by Paul Harding aka Discover History. Those of you who are familiar with Paul’s presentations will know that he presents any subject with such enthusiasm and that his knowledge and passion for all things historical shines through. Supporting his talk with related artefacts and images, you are guaranteed a great evening.

As usual there will be refreshments from 7:00pm with the talk at starting at 7:30pm.

The speaker for our talk on Thursday 7th May will be Dr Mike Jenkins who is new to the group but who comes highly recommended. The subject of his presentation is ‘Voices from the Past’ - The History of Place names in England’ taken taken from his book and with special emphasis on those local to Tenbury Wells and other interesting local names such as Clee Hill, Lindridge. Rochford, Stoke Bliss and Pensax to name a few. Dr Jenkins will question ... Who were the folks who created your local names? What are they calling out over the centuries and how can place names tell us about their lives?
As usual there will be refreshments from 7:00pm with the talk at 7:30pm. So do come early to choose your seat, they can sometimes be at a premium !

Tenbury Wells Museum and History Group are delighted to announce that the new 2026 programme of History Talks will begin again on Thursday 5th March with a ‘new to the group speaker’ - Howard Robinson – who will be telling his audience all about ‘The History of Salt’ – its structure, history and uses as well as its dangers.’

As well as being an accomplished speaker on many subjects, Howard was Head of Biology at two Worcestershire schools for 40 years where his specialist subject was salt in the human body. Now retired, Howard lives near Droitwich, which has links to the extraction and production of salt dating back to the Romans. The talk, which will be held in the Pump Rooms.
There will then be refreshments from 7:00pm with the talk beginning at 7:30pm
