We were delighted by the last minute decision by Somerset County Cricket Club and the Devon Cricket Foundation to move the Devon Community Awards into the Somerset Cricket Museum, during the afternoon rain break (17/5/2026)

As a result the Museum was full with visitors from various Devon cricketing organisations watching the awards being presented by Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr.

A special cricketing occasion took place at St George’s Church, Bicknoller on Thursday 14th May when former Somerset and England batter Marcus Trescothick officially opened a new pair of oak doors dedicated to the memory of Harold Gimblett, Somerset’s highest first class run scorer who was born and grew up in the village.

Visit of the High Sheriff for Somerset to the Somerset Cricket Museum

Along with fellow Trustee, Richard Walsh, it was a delight and privilege to welcome Janet Montgomery, High Sheriff for Somerset to the Somerset Cricket Museum yesterday afternoon (24/2/2026).

Janet was given an hour long tour of the Museum and was interested in every one of exhibits and intrigued by the collection of porcelain kit bags and bats.

After the visit she commented “ I learnt so much about the history of the game in Somerset but also it was fantastic to relive some memories of the fantastic cricketers who have played for Somerset and to learn more through their stories through the displays. I will definitely be back when I attend a future cricket match”.

Walkers and Talkers visit to the Somerset Cricket Museum

So pleased to welcome so many to the Somerset Cricket Museum this morning. We discussed the sporting talent in the 2005 Under 13 Regional Cricket team that included current club captain, Lewis Gregory and Anya Shrubsole.

We also looked at the number of Somerset CCC players who had also played for Taunton Rugby Football Club.

Both discussions will be posted on the Museum website in due course.

The group then headed back to the County Room for a most inspiring talk with Erin Osborne, Somerset Women Head Coach.
