Dogdyke Steam Pumping Station 1856 Steam Pumping Station It is possibly the oldest steam-driven scoop wheel pumping set in the country that is still in steam in its original position.

Dogdyke steam pumping station was built in 1856 to replace the existing wind-driven pump to drain a large area of farmland between the rivers Bain and Witham. The engine, which runs in steam on all the Open Days, is the original external condensing beam-engine built by Bradley & Craven of Wakefield. Usually, the engines will be operating between 1.30pm and 4.30pm on the first Sunday of each month

until the final work day in October, plus an additional ‘Heritage Open Day’ on during September. It is hoped to add a couple of evening openings during the summer months, also. Check for fresh Fb updates nearer the time.

FINAL EVENING OPENING - will take place on Thursday, 16th July, 2026 from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. Come and have a pleasant evening by the River Witham, to see the engines at work and enjoy our refreshments and chat with friends. It is an opportunity to enjoy this quiet rural site which has its own magic in the evening light.

A display of classic cars, motorbikes and scooters will give an added attraction for visitors.

The first evening opening of the Dogdyke steam and diesel drainage engines this year will be on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.

Come and have a pleasant evening by the River Witham, to see the engines at work and enjoy our refreshments and chat with friends. It is an opportunity to enjoy this quiet rural site which has its own magic in the evening light.

A small display of classic tractors that will back memories to some of our farming visitors are in the grounds.

Admission to the site is free, but we do welcome donations which are used to maintain these engines. This will be a great evening out for all the family.

OUR LATEST PRESS RELEASE: Sunday 7 June 2026, 12.30 to 4.30pm at the Dogdyke Steam Pumping Station, Tattershall Bridge. Both the unique Bradley & Craven 1856 steam engine and the Lincoln built Ruston &Hornsby, single cylinder oil engine will be working and there will be an additional exhibition of models. Some will bring reminders of their childhood with a collection of Hornby O gauge railway vehicles and engines. A fascinating display of working model fair ground rides including a Wall of Death motorbike ride. The craftsman’s skill is evident in a collection of horse drawn farm vehicles shown along with a scale model of the craftsman’s home. Other displays feature working model oil engines and steam engines to providing additional enjoyment to visitors.

There is a museum room in the cottage looking at aspects of land drainage over time and the people and their families involved in carrying out that work.

The site is entirely operated by volunteers and we are always interested in attracting more people who may be willing to help keep the site open.
