Our Story
The Hall spans seven centuries of English domestic architecture and is set in 42 acres of tranquil grounds which include a beautiful walled garden, an orchard, Middleton Lake and a nature trail. The stories told of the many characters that lived here over the centuries include those of seventeenth century natural history scientists Francis Willughby and John Ray, Hugh Willoughby the Tudor explorer and the myriad of servants that have lived and worked at the Hall in our more recent past.
Middleton Hall Trust is the independent charity that looks after the estate. It was established in 1980 by a group of intrepid volunteers in order to save and restore the then derelict Hall. Their hard work now means that these lovely buildings and grounds can be enjoyed by all of us. Our volunteers are central to our organisation and without their continued dedication we wouldn't be able to continue our restoration and conservation work whilst also opening to the public.
The Hall will be open every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the secon Saturday of the month between 1st April and 7th October this year. We have regular events such as our monthly motor meeting, Re-enactment weekends and Plant Hunters’ Fairs during the summer. And we then open for seasonal events, like our Christmas Carol Concert and Open by Candlelight, over the winter. For more information please see the events section of our page or visit our website www.middleton-hall.co.uk
The Hall is also available for exclusive use hire for weddings and private celebrations. Please contact us on 01827 283 095 or [email protected], for further information.
We currently don't receive any grant funding and rely entirely upon our own fundraising activities to keep the Hall, Gardens and Grounds open to the public and to continue our restoration and conservation programmes.
