A special thanks to artist and model maker, Chris Twigg, and photographer, Phil Crow, for their wonderful demonstrations and exhibitions today at .

Celebrate the iconic bottle ovens of the Potteries at a special exhibition at Barewall Art Gallery in Burslem.

Featuring work by local artists Phil Crow and Chris Twigg, the exhibition captures these much-loved landmarks and their place at the heart of Stoke-on-Trent’s industrial heritage.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the chance to watch artist Chris Twigg create live paintings, offering a unique insight into his creative process as new works develop during the exhibition. Phil Crow will also be setting up a pop-up studio to take portraits of visitors, styled as a nod to Arthur Berry's work.

The free event will feature a range of activities and displays, including:-
• Photography exhibitions capturing the character and heritage of bottle ovens
• A pop-up artist studio
• Handcrafted bottle oven models
• Live demonstrations
• The opportunity to meet the artists and hear more about their projects
• Original prints, books, models and other items available to purchase
• Refreshments available throughout the day

Don't miss the upcoming Photography and Model Making exhibition exploring the iconic bottle ovens and industrial heritage of Stoke-on-Trent on Bottle Oven Day, 2026. Taking place on Saturday 29th August from 10am to 3pm at the Barewall Art Gallery, Market place, Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent.

The event will feature a range of activities and displays, including bottle oven photography exhibitions, hand-crafted models, and the opportunity to meet the artists

Throughout the day, visitors will have the chance to watch artist Chris Twigg create live paintings while Phil Crow will set up a pop-up studio to take portraits of visitors, styled as a nod to Arthur Berry's work.

Visitors will also be able to purchase original prints, books, models, and other items at the event, where refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Burslem China Painters are moving to Barewall Studio

We’re delighted to welcome the Burslem China Painters to Barewall Studio from Wednesday 9th September, continuing a proud Potteries tradition of creativity and craftsmanship.

Previously based at Burslem School of Art, the group will now meet every Wednesday from 12 noon–3pm at Barewall Studio. The sessions offer a relaxed and friendly environment to enjoy china painting, learn new skills and share ideas with fellow enthusiasts.

Beginners and intermediate painters are welcome. No materials are required to get started, and kits are available on arrival.

Anyone can join the group - whether you’re an experienced china painter or would simply like to try something new, you’ll be warmly welcomed.

🍺 The Demon Drink in Burslem

Join local historian Mervyn Edwards for a fascinating guided walk exploring the history of drinking, pubs and temperance in Burslem.

Taking place alongside the Potteries Chartist Festival, the walk will uncover stories from the town’s past and reveal the role that public houses and alcohol once played in local life.
