Another recent eBay purchase.

This is to help the team at Peak Rail who are working on returning our Wickham of Ware Type 27 Mk IV Semi Open Trolley to operational condition. The Trolley has a Ford 2262E Engine.

We also have a shopping list for this Trolley:

Electronic Distributor
Air Filter
Oil Filter
Oil (20W 50 or 10W 40/50)
Coolant

We are also looking for volunteers to join the team at Peak Rail with the aim of having it running for the Mixed Traffic Gala on 19th & 20th September 2026.

Our Chair Jonathan Flood receives requests for assistance from all over the world.

One of these was from Rasika Wickramanayaka a very knowledgeable railway enthusiast & author from Sri Lanka, who was compiling an exceedingly detailed book on the Railcars of Ceylon.

He was looking for details of Wickham railway vehicles supplied to Ceylon, which included Type 4 S/L, Type 5, Type 40, Type 42 and also some conversion sets to convert Sentinel Steam Railcars to diesel with Rolls Royce engines.

A few days ago the Trust were delighted to receive a copy of the book from the author, in thanks for our assistance with compiling the Wickham of Ware information for the book.

The book is very interesting and covers the subject in great detail and our Chair is very much enjoying reading the book and thanks the author for his mention of the Trust and his generosity in sending us a copy of the book.

We can thoroughly recommend the book to those interested in Railcars and the history of the Railways of Ceylon.

On 27th April 2026, our Wickham of Ware Type 17A Trolley Works No. 7586 moved on loan from storage in the midlands to https://www.facebook.com/dockyardrailway, where it will be restored to serviceable condition. Photo on arrival courtesy of CHDT.

Thanks to Severn Valley Railway for including an article about the three Preserved Permaquip Railway Vehicles & Equipment that we have on loan to them including the unique Patrolmens Vehicle.

We’ve also been able to support our friends there as they look to put their recently arrived Geismar Mini 4-4 Four Seater Trolley back into service.

We look forward to continuing are excellent relationship with them.

How can it be May already? Right now, the Railway is humming because today is the first day of the Spring Diesel Festival. The atmosphere is great and there’s lots to delight our visitors over the four days of the event.

We are looking at coordinating a bulk purchase of replacement Geismar EGO4 Trolley wheels.

Our team have not been able to reconvene at the museum yet, after the fire last year which damaged parts of the building.

Hopefully, they can return soon and work will recommence on the restoration of Wickham Type 27 Mk III - Works No. 8196 - see https://flic.kr/s/aHsmRNMuKd

Work is focussed on preparing the new chassis to have parts etc. transferred from the old chassis and also reinstating dual pedal controls.

We also have a BSA 420cc engine, which needs to be overhauled for our Wickham Type 1A Trolley - Works No. 6952 - see https://flic.kr/s/aHsm1vuCJT. This is next in the restoration queue.

One of our team is currently working on finding either (a) a company who can overhaul / repair / restore the original gauges (b) a source of suitable replacement gauges etc. for our Wickham Type 27 Trolleys.

In the meanwhile, some of the team will be meeting up to review all of the Trust's drawings (mainly Wickham of Ware) in order to collate a full list of all drawings, parts list etc. that we hold, so that a plan can then be put in place to make these available for other owners / restorers etc.
