A modern copy of a Bronze Age arrowhead by Karl Lee, , an expert with all things flint. I was reminded we had this when I went into the museum to photograph some Bronze Age objects so we could reprint our Bronze Age booklet with updated images. On the left, natural overhead light and right, the arrowhead with backlight. With the light behind, thin sections of flint are almost glass like with a reddish glow. The arrowhead is a faithful recreation of what would have been made in the Bronze Age using a fine tipped bronze tool to take tiny flakes of flint away to fashion the edge and tight curves. Ours is 37mm long, 35mm across and 4.5mm at its thickest.

Our Bronze Age booklet was produced by the Education Team and is yours for just £1.50 from the museum shop. It is a perfect introduction to the Bronze Age and a useful homework resource, giving a local view of the Bronze Age in Spelthorne.

You may remember, earlier in the year, our SPARCs volunteer Emma was involved in geophysics at Runnymede. Here’s a lovely overview of some of the things Digging Surrey's Past got up to this year.

And what a fun day this was. Thanks for your knowledge Karl.

Great to see Karl Lee from on TV with Sir David Attenborough last night. Karl visited Spelthorne Museum to demonstrate flintknapping in Feb 2020, his visit sponsored by our Young Archaeologists’ Club and a grant from Spelthorne Borough Council

Merry Christmas everyone! Have a lovely day.Spelthorne Museum
