An update on Henry Cole at Museum LIVE 2026

Following Henry’s recent announcement that he is undergoing cancer treatment and has cancelled his live appearances while he focuses on his health, we wanted to share an update on his involvement in Museum LIVE.
While Henry won’t be appearing in person, he will still be part of the weekend, joining us either via a live video link or through pre-recorded messages.

The Henry Cole & Friends shows will continue, with Allen Millyard, Guy ‘Skid’ Willison and Fuzz Townsend on stage, hosted by TT winner Steve Plater. There will also be guest appearances from Steve Parrish, John McGuinness MBE and Jamie Whitham.

We’re delighted that Henry will still be able to play a part in the event and, from everyone at the National Motorcycle Museum, we send him our very best wishes for his treatment.

This 1960 Matchless GL3 AFS 350cc was part of Britain's Cold War emergency preparations.

Procured by the Home Office and kept in storage, motorcycles like this were held in reserve in case they were ever needed during a national emergency – much like the famous Green Goddess auxiliary fire engines.

Look closely and you'll even spot the small fire extinguisher mounted on the side.

Thankfully, the emergency it was prepared for never happened.

That means these bikes often have remarkably low mileage and remain in original condition after decades in storage.

This particular Matchless is now for sale and is currently on display in the foyer at the National Motorcycle Museum.

Thought to be lost. Hidden away since 1979. Now back in the spotlight.

Our September Bike of the Month is the extraordinary 1963 500cc Marsh V8 – a unique motorcycle built by engineer Fred Marsh, with much of the engine made from scratch on a lathe in his garden shed.

The V8 was acquired by the National Motorcycle Museum in early 2025, directly from Fred’s former apprentice and lifelong friend, Don Lowman.

And now, it has been reunited with its sister machine – Fred’s Marsh MR4 four-cylinder racer, already part of our collection in Hall 5.

And this is only the beginning… the Marsh V8 is now set to undergo a complete restoration.

The plans? Five halls of motorcycles, more than 1,000 machines and a few hours spent exploring some seriously impressive pieces of motorcycle history.

🏍️ MUSEUM PEOPLE | GEORDIE STEVE

This month, we caught up with one of our wonderful volunteers, Geordie Steve – and yes, you guessed it, he's from Newcastle!

Steve talks us through where his love of motorcycles began, from his first BSA Bantam, which he bought for just £25 at the age of 15, to his beloved Suzuki, which he bought brand new in 1972 – and still owns and rides today.

From honeymoon trips to the Isle of Wight and road trips to Cornwall, to bringing the Suzuki back onto the road after years in the garage, it's a bike that's been part of Steve's life for more than 50 years.

Today, Steve is one of our fabulous volunteers, helping to clean, polish and care for the bikes in our collection every other Thursday.

He also tells us about restoring a BSA Bantam with his grandson and reveals his favourite motorcycle in the Museum.

A V10 that stops everyone in their tracks… 🏍️
Our volunteers recently gathered around one of the most extraordinary motorcycles currently on display at the National Motorcycle Museum, the incredible Millyard Viper V10.

Built by legendary motorcycle engineer Allen Millyard, this one-off machine is powered by an 8.0-litre V10 engine and is quite simply unlike anything else you’ll see on two wheels. After making headlines at the H&H auction earlier this year, the Viper is now back at the museum, generously on display courtesy of its new owner.

And while our bikes might be the stars of the show, our volunteers are at the heart of the National Motorcycle Museum. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for motorcycles help bring the collection to life every day.
