📸 It’s your last chance to see a curated selection of Urban Photography by Mick Maslen in Gallery 2 before it closes this Saturday.

📷 The Young Gallery’s permanent collection contains more than 200 photographs by Mick Maslen (1946-2018), many of which explore textured surfaces and document his travels.

🌍This exhibition showcases some of the urban scenes Maslen captured both in the UK and abroad, showing his interest in texture, form, and composition.

✏️The display also features a free family trail and runs until Saturday 29 August.

🎨This summer the Young Gallery has been delighted to host ‘Painting Your Place’ a creative, wellbeing course as part of Well-City Salisbury alongside artist Sue Martin

🖼️The course used Edwin Young’s watercolours from the collection as inspiration and we have loved seeing participants’ skills and creativity thrive over the 10 week course!

15 August marks VJ Day.
In 1942, renowned caricaturist Ronald Searle was imprisoned in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp and spent the next three and half years as a Prisoner of War (POW). Searle had joined the army in 1939 as an architectural draughtsman. Drawing helped to keep Searle alive during his time in Changi Gaol.

This caricature by Ronald Searle was kindly donated to the Young Gallery’s permanent collection by Robert Stiby. Stiby’s father, Arthur, also spent time as a POW. Although Arthur never met Searle, they both contributed to prison stage shows to keep the prisoners entertained.

Robert Stiby also kindly donated a selection of materials, including correspondence with Searle, in memory of his father, Arthur Stiby.

We had so much fun seeing everyone get creative!

‘Travelling Monsters’

Inspired by the photographic exhibition Young Gallery Salisbury, lots of monster inspired fun ensued in these summer workshops!

Monster collages, personally designed and decorated summer adventure books, and surreal challenges creating pictures with fruit!

Make monster collages and adventure books inspired by the Mick Maslen Urban Scene’s exhibition in Gallery 2. Activities will include collage, drawing and book making. ✏️

🎨Suitable for adults, families and children of all ages. Please note children must be accompanied by their responsible adult throughout the workshop.
