We're delighted to add Chloe Charrington to the list of fine ceramicists who have shown in the gallery.

We have a wide selection of Chloe's unique vessels in our current group show.

“My vessels are made using stoneware clay that start off on the potter’s wheel and are then altered to allow further manipulation of the clay, and to create new forms. The transformation continues through mark-making, using a variety of techniques to create texture, followed by the application of slips in a painterly manner, to infuse each piece with a natural and serene quality. Some of the pieces are burnished and polished to achieve a particular sheen, but my works are left unglazed to preserve the integrity and tactility of the material.”

Stig Evans is interested in the instability of visual perception. He uses colour to explore and question our visual acuity, how we perceive it, respond to it, represent it, and by its historical, chemical, physical and immaterial nature.

He paints with an airbrush, creating blurred optically challenging chromatic experiences where boundaries, borders, colours and forms subtly change, pulse, dissipate and dissolve during the looking experience.

We're thrilled to have two pieces by Stig in our current group show, The Mixtape. The ethereal painting we're showcasing today looks fantastic in the front space of the gallery.

Dan Hamer is one of the 16 artists new to the gallery among the 20 showing in our current group show, The Mixtape.

We love this brutalist assemblage which combines concrete, timber and spray paint to produce a piece with a commanding presence which belies its relatively modest scale. The spray paint lines resemble a laser and, installed, a spotlight extends the razor-like lower edge in shadow onto the wall.

Fraser Taylor studied Printed Textiles at The Glasgow School of Art, 1977–81, and at the Royal College of Art, 1981–83. Since 1983 he has developed an interdisciplinary art practice and exhibited internationally.

His collaborative works include projects with visual artists, designers, and contemporary dance. From 2001 until 2017, he was a Visiting Artist and Adjunct Full Professor in the Department of Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2017 he was awarded an Honorary Professorship from The Glasgow School of Art, University of Glasgow.

We love this piece by Luke St Leger. It combines a striking look with immaculate craftsmanship to create an interactive work with thousands of possible orientations.

It is on show for the first time in our current summer group exhibition.

Luke says: "I'm an artist, designer, and maker based in Bristol. My practice sits at the intersection of art and design, occupying that space where the two disciplines meet. I am currently focused on painting wooden forms, and my most recent project, Modular Case Studies, has emerged directly from this exploration. Lately, I have been reflecting on the influence a work of art can have on the atmosphere of a space – particularly the impact it makes when it is newly introduced.”

The gallery is delighted to announce Peter Lynch’s forthcoming solo exhibition: ‘As if something might be expected of me’

Lynch presents a selection of new monoprints and paintings developed over the past several years. Lynch (b. 1971, UK) began formulating his idiosyncratic approach to abstraction in the early 1990s while studying at the Glasgow School of Art under the guidance of artists such as Callum Innes and alongside notable students Hayley and Sue Tompkins and Jim Lambie. There, he discovered an abiding interest in the principles of painting, exploring color/non-color, and probing the space between tactility and translucency.

He continued his education at Goldsmiths, University of London, taught by the likes of Michael Craig-Martin and Terry Atkinson. Lynch explains the conceptual underpinnings that continue to inform his practice: “This history [of painting] is not a development that is particularly linear; instead, I think it is very circular. My work relates back to previous generations in a circular, forward-looking process.”

Returning to Glasgow as an Artist-in-Residence in 2000, Lynch embarked on his interrogation of the painterly object and surface by means of bodily gesture, with rhythmic, sensual zips of the artist’s finger tracing and erasing the very structure of the grid itself.

Martyn Simpson is an artist and furniture maker, whose practice explores craft and materiality in both design and fine art.

His output falls into three groups: Studio Furniture, Painting and Sculpture, and has been exhibited in London and throughout the UK, as well as in Lisbon, Stockholm, Helsinki, Brussels, Vienna, Beijing and Tokyo.

Martyn makes his debut in the gallery with an exquisite small coffee table, beautifully designed and immaculately constructed.

Initially trained as a guitar maker, by the early 2010s Paul Kelley had become known as one of the UK’s foremost furniture makers with an international reputation for both interiors and freestanding work.

During this period of his career he designed and made pieces for clients such as Paul Smith, Fendi, Annabelle Selldorf Architects and Dominique Levy.

By 2015 he had started to move away from design and focus more and more on freestanding installation work which resulted in him exhibiting at the Venice Biennale for Architecture in 2016 and the Venice Biennale for Art in 2017, both with the European Cultural Centre.

Since then this has been his main medium, resulting in commissions for the Thomas Mann Villa in Munich and currently a project for the Chair of Trustees of the Guggenheim Museum, New York.

We're delighted to be showing Paul's outstanding installation The Weight of Time, previously on show in a different orientation at the Biennale, as part of our current summer group show – don't miss it!

Painter Dan Cook first showed with the gallery last year in our exhibition Contemporary Cornwall Painting alongside David Mankin, Spencer Shakespeare and Harry Wade.
