Annalong Cornmill

Annalong Cornmill was once a busy cornmill, in operation from the early 1800s and closing in the 1960s. For generations local farmers brought sacks of oats here to be milled into oatmeal.

I was hoping to get some “refreshments” at the only pub in town the Harbour Inn but unfortunately it has closed down. Such a shame it was a great spot.

I’m delighted to announce my painting “Donkeys on Weymouth beach” has won one of the two Curator’s Choice prizes at the Rye Art Gallery “En Plein Air” exhibition. I had no idea about this. I just went down to Rye to pick up my paintings. The painting was done during the annual trip in Dorset so many thanks to them and Rye Art Gallery for the prize.

The bronze statue commemorates the birth of Lady Mairi in 1921, surrounded by bells and cockle shells based on the nursery rhyme.

Kearney Village is a 18th Century fishing village restored by the National Trust. Famous for its vernacular whitewashed cottages and seafaring heritage. Positioned along a heavy shipping lane into Belfast, the jagged surrounding rocks caused numerous shipwrecks. While some locals salvaged legitimate wrecks for coal, tea, and textiles, local folklore claims that some residents placed deceptive lanterns along the shoreline to intentionally run ships aground for plunder, especially after the South Rock Lighthouse was erected in 1797.
