10 years ago Ray made this little standard dress diver as a gift. With the helmet from a gumball machine, the shiny bobs found on the sea bed, a good bit of knitting and a few things found in the skip you have the magical workings of .

He is well missed today on a sunny morning and calm seas.

Ray Ives 1936-2023

Ray was a legend in the diving world and an inspiration to all in the Plymouth dive community. Ray's spirit, determination, and love for the Ocean has left a mark on us all.

As we reflect on the joy and inspiration Ray brought to our screens in tonights episode, we remember his dedication to sharing the wonders of the underwater world. Let's continue the journey he started, protecting our Ocean and marine life for future generations to come.

From Ray's Daughter Sam:

I just wanted to thank everyone that came to dad ( Ray Ives’s ) funeral on Thursday, for all your kind words. Cards, messages and for paying your respects, sorry if I didn’t get to speak to you all, I was totally overwhelmed by how many turned up. I think by you all being there, we gave him a good send off, so from the bottom of my heart, Thanks to each and everyone of you.

Kind regards Kevin Sam Childs ( Rays daughter)

We said goodbye to Ray this week. At his funeral we heard amazing stories from Kevin, Tony and Howard about Ray's early years, how he became a dive commercial dive instructor and how he found his mermaid at last.

The church was standing room only with over 300 people in attendance and many more watching live from around the world. It was lovely to have so many people that loved Ray come together to celebrate his trully amazing life.

Ray will never be forgotten, and he isn't gone, he is just out diving...🧜🏻‍♀️

Some of you may have heard of the passing of legendary diver Ray Ives late last month. Ray passed away doing what he loved best, looking for treasure in the blue ancient waters of Plymouth. We suspect Ray finally found the golden 🧜🏻‍♀️ mermaid he had always been looking for.

Ray and his diving museum, Friends of Ray Ives Museum, a collection of finds from the sea, historical diving gear and history were part of the magic of Plymouth and the story of the sea. His museum and legacy will go on for future generations to appreciate and experience.

For those who would like to attend Ray's funeral, Ray's family have kindly sent along the details and all are welcome.

From The Mess Room

Feeling very grateful this morning.

Over the past week we have been writing letters to Ray and put them in a beautiful bottle which our lovely Lydia had made. The plan was to go out to one of his favourite dive spot in Cawsands and place it in the sea.

As soon as we got to Cawsands and started to anchor, dolphins appeared around us! A pod of dolphins !! You could not have written it, it was so unbelievably special.

Steve and Mick dived down to place the bottle on the ocean bed before coming back up. ❤️

We then went more into the bay where we believe the accident happened to lay some flowers for Ray. The contrast of the yellow sunflowers and the grey skies was just breathtaking.

We would not in any way been able to have had our own little send off in such a personal, private and incredible way without Steve M, Mick, Lorna and, Ginger Steve as well as Yacht Haven for allowing this to happen. Thank you. It was perfect.

See you soon Ray, our old friend.
(Ps thanks for the dolphins! 😘🐬)

From Steve Munden

As we know, we sadly lost the “Mighty Man“ Ray Ives last week however, what some of you may not be aware of is that everyday, come rain or shine, Ray would be down the Mess Room cafe in Plymstock collecting plates, washing up & emptying the bins. The ladies at the cafe asked me if I could take a bottle to Ray’s favourite dive site in Cawsands and place it there. This bottle has personal messages from the ladies of what Ray meant to them and, whilst I know it will not stay where it has been placed, I am asking that, if you find the bottle rolling around on the seabed, that you can kindly leave it down there please?
