We are delighted to announce that Online Ceramics now has a showcase at 45 Southside Gallery, right in the heart of Plymouth’s historic Barbican.

Founded in 2009, 45 Southside specialises in contemporary ceramics, glass and metalwork by artists from Devon and Cornwall. It is also home to the work of Online Ceramics artist John Pollex.

Our first showcase features the brilliant ceramic sculptures of Paul Young. His work is still available to buy through Online Ceramics, but if you are in the Plymouth area, you can now see a selection of his sculptures in person at 45 Southside Gallery.

A great opportunity to get up close to Paul’s work and to discover Plymouth’s best galleries for wood, glass, metalwork and contemporary ceramics.

Two of four new vessels by have been added to Jack Doherty’s page today.

At £100, the small conical vessel offers a chance to own a piece of Jack’s porcelain work at an exceptionally accessible price. At the other end of the scale is the spectacular £1,500 large cut-rim vessel, its interior carved into a remarkable surface.

Every vessel in Jack’s porcelain range is a one-off. Soda firing plays a decisive part in this: as flames move around the pots, firing from different angles and creating areas of intense and cooler heat, the surface develops variations that could never be precisely predicted or repeated.

Two new pots by Francis Lloyd Jones have just been added to his page.

Both are thrown stoneware vessels that Francis has salt-glazed, a firing process that gives his pots their distinctive surfaces and character. They are great examples of Francis’s work and sit alongside a varied selection of his pots currently available from Online Ceramics.

A special acquisition for Online Ceramics: this large thrown stoneware vessel by the hugely influential British potter Colin Pearson (1923–2007).

The vessel features Pearson’s distinctive double wings, covered in a bronze glaze. Pearson was a hugely important figure in contemporary British ceramics and his influence can be seen in the work of generations of potters, including two Online Ceramics artists, John Pollex and Richard Phethean.

This is a particularly impressive example of Pearson’s work and one that Peter Ward, owner of Online Ceramics, was delighted to add to the Acquisitions collection.

Alongside the two lidded storage jars added to Terry Bell-Hughes’ Online Ceramics page this weekend, we have also added this wonderful ‘Dogs’ bowl.

And no, it is not a bowl for dogs to eat from 😂 it is decorated with Terry’s wonderfully characterful dogs design!

Terry has been making pots since the 1960s and remains a brilliant and wonderfully individual potter. We have long admired his work and are delighted that Online Ceramics is one of just a couple of galleries Terry has chosen to represent him for the past 15 years.

Two lidded storage jars have just been added to Terry Bell-Hughes’ page. Both are high-fired stoneware pots decorated with Terry’s distinctive ‘bather’ motif.

Terry has been making pots since the 1960s and remains a brilliant and wonderfully individual potter. We adore his work and are honoured that Online Ceramics is one of a very small number of galleries representing him.

Have you seen the latest ceramic sculpture by John Maltby to be added to Online Ceramics?

Titled ‘Fishermen and Boat’, this wonderfully characterful sculpture features three fishermen with really gnarly features. They look just like the fishermen I used to see falling out of the Dolphin Pub on Plymouth’s Barbican when I worked for John Pollex over 45 years ago!

John Maltby had an extraordinary ability to create figures that feel as though they have a whole story behind them. There is so much character in these three fishermen, from their expressions and features to the way they sit together in the boat.

At the weekend we added a further two works by Stephen Parry to his page; a fabulous cup with some crystallisation and a very tall large jug - a real statement piece - that is a whopping 43.7 cm tall.
