COMING SOON 🖼️📣 ‘OPEN’: Celebrating the work of d/Deaf and disabled artists from across the rural South West

📆 21 NOV — 01 MAY 2027
📍 Newlyn Art Gallery

We’re thrilled to share a few images from Director James Green’s recent studio visit with Ben Davies, one of the artists exhibiting in our upcoming exhibition, OPEN. 🎨✨

‘OPEN’ emerged from an open call designed to provide a platform for artists in the region, with submissions considered through an open selection process involving representatives from Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange, John Hansard Gallery , and DASH.

The ‘OPEN’ artists work from across a wide range of disciplines, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, stained glass and moving image.

We thank Ben for inviting us to his Krowji studio and talking through his vast collection of conceptual works- fascinating stuff!

Our ‘OPEN’ artists include:

✨Benedict Davies, ✨Carrie Mason, ✨Dolly Kershaw, ✨Edie Evans, ✨Jane Knight, ✨Lily Bertrand-Webb, ✨Nick Ivins, ✨Patricia Dixon and ✨Siân Cann

Originally conceived for Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, this collection of works highlights the breadth of Offeh’s practice and his distinctive use of humour, performance and collaboration to explore contemporary social and political questions.

And it's on it's way to Penzance!

📸 INTRODUCING TEÄN ROBERTS’ ‘HOLDFAST’
📍 The Studio, Newlyn Art Gallery
📅 12 Sep – 31 Oct

Teän Roberts presents ‘Holdfast’, a photographic investigation into the folk-history of kelping in the Isles of Scilly. 🌊

All that is left of this 150-year-long subsistence practice – of collecting, drying and burning seaweed for glass making – are the stone-lined pits where the kelp was burned.

🌿 Roberts’ work begins with a place – like these half-collapsed kelp pits on the islands’ coasts – where the veil to the imaginary feels thin and they can play with the images that leak through. By sinking their body into the landscape, submerging into the earth and into history, they catch hold of the glimmering memories latent in the land and its vanished heritage.

Their photographs, captured in the transformative light at the edge of the day, reveal the lasting traces of this vanished heritage on the place and its people.

✨ Don’t miss the opportunity to see ‘Holdfast’ at Newlyn Art Gallery, amongst the panoramic views of the sea from the studio.

Teän Roberts

📅 The exhibition is on until SAT 31 OCT.

Today marked the last in-person session at The Bread Line in Penzance for our community-curated project with St Petrocs | Cornish Homelessness Charity

During the ten sessions our Programme Curator & Learning Lead Rebecca English and art fascilitator Theo Carter Webber have worked with St Petroc clients. Each week has begun in the same way: gathering around a table to share food, conversation and time together before exploring a selection of portraits from the National Portrait Gallery’s Collection.

After finalising the works from National Portrait Gallery, which will be on display at The Exchange next year, we enjoyed a visit back to The Exchange to look and engage with ZED LOVE by .

Huge thanks goes out to for facilitating in such thought provoking and engaging ways, to our funders of this project The Headley Trust and Penzance Council and our partner The National Portrait Gallery.

We can’t wait to share this exhibition with you in the Summer next year.
