So many reasons to visit… (and extended opening on bank hol Monday to make it easier!)
Another newspaper has picked up on just some of the ways in which visiting Nidderdale is a way to discover so many fascinating things…. all in one area. Both the top 2 in their article are here.
And whilst you’re making a day of it, the amazing museum with its 12 themed exhibition spaces that immerse you in the past life of the Dale, is always worth including in any trip. Open 10.30-4.30 this bank holiday Monday and 1.30 - 4.30 on Tuesdays-Sundays thereafter.

The wonderful Yorkshire Treasures visited and have written lovely things❤️!
If you haven’t been recently, do come and experience it for yourself👍

Do you remember those yellow rides? It's thanks to museums & displays like Nidderdale Museum, Pateley Bridge and Keld Heritage Centre that I write these daily posts. We used to go out on day trips every weekend as children, constantly discovering new places, going to museums, on walks, enjoying the small details that make a place special.

Without perhaps realising it, my parents were preparing me for a lifetime working in the tourism industry, helping visitors gain insights into beautiful and interesting places. I still love to visit anywhere with a heritage centre, museum, display or interpretation panel!

Often relying on an army of willing volunteers, these small museums have incredible collections of everyday treasures of the past, quirky stories and snippets of otherwise forgotten history. Bigger places may have bigger display areas and more technology and touch-screens but they don't have the same charm.

Now Nidderdale Museum is offering something a little different, building on a trend that's taken off elsewhere, but they're doing it in their own way. On Saturday afternoon we fortified ourselves with excellent chocolate drinks at Cocoa Joe's before going into the museum when other visitors had left.

It felt slightly other-worldly to walk through the corridors and chain of rooms to reach our destination: the Victorian Parlour, where an escape game awaited! After the simple rules had been explained, and initial clues handed to us, we were able to scour the room in search of more hints and artefacts to discover the secrets held in nanny's notebook.

Entertaining and satisfying, the escape room experience is definitely to be recommended. It's suitable for up to 5 participants at a time and must be pre-booked. Early evening sessions are currently available on Thursdays and Saturdays but only for a short time, so early booking is recommended. More sessions are likely to be added later in the year/next year.

Did you know Nidderdale Museum was in the top 1% of museums worldwide to be chosen for this brilliant new digital platform? The Harrogate Advertiser wrote a lovely article about is - "read all about it!"

Nidderdale Museum says it is “thrilled” to be in the first 1% of museums worldwide to have been selected to use a new digital platform powered by Bloomberg Connect.

Remember before facebook, Instagram, phones… we went on a trip and sent postcards home. It was lovely to spend time choosing them, to sit and write them, to imagine happy faces when friends and family receive them.

There’s something so lovely about receiving a handwritten postcard. Pick up a postcard from the the museum when you visit (the best part is they are free)

Where will you sit and write it?
Who will you make happy when they receive it?

Another really lovely endorsement; this time from Jennifer Smith who runs the Ryedale Folk Museum who was interviews in the Yorkshire Post .
Many thanks to both of them. If you haven't been recently, pop along for a fascinating hour or so and see why we're in the media so often

Jennifer Smith has been director of Ryedale Folk Museum in the North York Moors for the past 12 years, where she spends her working days caring for a remarkable historic collection that tells the story of rural life in the region.

Thank you The Northern Echo!
