Toot toot I’m back and wow what an incredible adventure .photography and I had in Iceland 🇮🇸

Everything was so vast and varied, the landscape, geology, wildlife and weather!! Speaking of weather, landing in Heathrow in 36c in full hiking waterproofs and walking boots was a bit intense to say the least but I’ve now readjusted to Cornish life and the flip flops are back.

I’ll share some holiday snaps on Stories and Leo’s images will be available go view once he’s had a chance to edit the thousands of images and yes, Puffins are as adorable as you think they are!! 🥰

I’ve had great fun putting together a new window display with gorgeous new work from Claire Henley Penny Little Janie Ramsay Amanda Hoskin

Sqquuueee I’m super excited about so many things today…

Firstly and I are busy behind the scenes, getting ready for a very special exhibition in September. I’ve been raiding the Cornish hedgerows and shoreline for organic materials and then posting them to Ian so that he can make natural paint/dye/pigments for a Charitable limited edition print idea - so far I’ve posted Red Valerian aka Padstow Pride, Elderflowers, Tamarisk and some washed up Seaweed. I’m really excited to see how these turn out, what colours they produce and how it influences Ian’s oil originals.

And in other news… I’m off on holiday 🇮🇸 .photography and I are headed to Iceland on a two week road trip in a campervan. We’re looking forward to hiking, whale watching, puffin spotting, landscape photography and who knows, I might even attempt a sketch or two. 🐳 🫍 🐋 🐧 🏕️ 📸

I’m leaving the gallery in very capable hands and Ellie is taking over social media for me whilst I’m away. Woop woop 🙌

Back soon. Liz xx

Continuing the sunny theme, we have this gorgeous collection from ranging in size and price. Ruth’s training as a textile designer is evident in her work. She is inspired as much by colour and pattern as by the English landscape. Working in oils she applies paint directly to the surface, moving it around with brushes, combs and her hands. Her atmospheric paintings capture the changing seasons and the effect of the weather on the land. Her work takes the journey from the open heathland through the South Downs where she spent her childhood, down to the coastline of Cornwall.

Ruth Taylor is also brilliant at naming paintings, far better than myself ‘Vase of Flowers 1, 2, 3…’ & ‘Landscape series 1, 2, 3…” 😜

Speaking of favourites views…. Tregirls Beach has to be up there in my top 10. I just love the view looking across to Daymer and Rock 🥰

If I get a wiggle on, I can just about get there and back in my lunch break. A serious wiggle that is, with no stopping to munch sandwiches 😂

A gentler walk is up to the War Memorial - there is definitely time for a sedate lunch on the bench on those walks.

For the Artist, Andrew Jago…. “Working outdoors gives me an intimacy with the landscape and this is an important element in the process – the spontaneity of an outdoor study, the shifting tide, the changing light; I am acutely aware of the pressing of time and the need to be economical with detail. I also make notes and take photographs that can be a valuable source of reference and inspiration for ongoing projects within the studio”.

Texture, pattern and colour dominate Lucy’s artwork. Lucy uses a process of layering acrylic media to create the effect she wants. An underpainting or tonal wash will be overlaid with layer upon layer of paint or ink then some areas scraped or washed away to create a dynamic composition. Inspired by her favourite walks and views in Cornwall.

What a happy coincidence when one of your favourite creative couples pop in to deliver Elke Lucas’ very first collection of ceramics to the gallery, and her hubby (and fellow artist), Ben spots one of his own fish mugs captured brilliant as a still life painting by Sophie Harding!
