As we have a few ex Hutchison drivers who follow the page, I thought this once familiar face would bring back some memories. Former Hutchy Manager Danny Gormley is pictured here at McGill's Greenock Depot open day. Danny has been working with McGill's for several years now in the training department but is looking forward to his retirement in 8 weeks. It was good to have a blether after all those years and find he was still his usual cheerful and chatty self - a true gentleman of the industry!

In order to facilitate some repairs to the gearbox on Fred, a local garage was recruited to hopefully carry out this job. Unfortunately after removing the gearbox the contractor found the parts required where obsolete and the repairs could not be carried out. We are currently exploring our options of how to proceed with the work, but in the mean time, Fred got a lift back to Bridgeton on the back of a tow wagon and has managed to bag himself a pretty decent parking space

GVVT may remain closed however work can continue on Fred as he enjoys a holiday away from the garage.

We are hoping repairs to the troublesome clutch will be carried out within the next few weeks. In the meantime, a fault with the alternator was identified and rectified that meant the batteries where not being charged.

Here we see two of the seats removed from Fred providing a handy prop to ensure the ridiculously heavy bonnet doesn't coming crashing down. On order are a new set of 1000n gas struts which will allow the bonnet to be self supporting

It is with the heaviest of hearts we have just learned of the passing of Hutchison legend Sonny Ralton, aged 70.

Sonny was a well loved and long term driver at Hutchison starting in 1979 until the takeover by First in 2007, where he continued driving until retirement in 2016.

Sonny was a well known face on the Cleland to Glasgow Scottish Pullman service with steady bus P508VUS which he drove from new in 1997.

PSV233 - originally registered T733JGB - was one of a pair of 2 Vanhool Alizee T9 bodied Volvo B10M's delivered brand new to Overtown during 1999. It was one of 5 vehicles purchased new that year, all of which were registered consecutively. The order comprised:

1 x Berkhof Axial - T732JGB (latterly HCO514)
2 x Alizee T9's - T733/734JGB (latterly PSV233 and XUF456)
2 x Optare Excels - T735/736JGB

On the demise of Hutchison, this vehicle passed to Moseley in Airdrie (dealer) before being sold to Smiths of Patna. Amazingly this coach has retained its silver livery and blue stripes despite leaving the Hutchison fleet over 12yrs ago!

Pictured here in Blackpool during July 2006 looking absolutely resplendent, a familiar Hutchie legend is also captured at the rear!

A superb image of 4 coaches pictured in Blackpool during what must've been a busy September weekend in 2002 for Hutchison

Furthest from the camera we see R27 and R28VSM, both Vanhool bodied DAF's which were acquired second hand from MacEwans Coaches.

Nearest the camera we see R91 and R92HUS, both Plaxton bodied Volvo's which were new to the fleet. Both would have been used on the Newmains - Glasgow express service had it not been a holiday weekend and they were instead stretching their legs on a run down the M6 to pickup holidaymakers.

Hutchison operated two of these ultra rare VanHool Alizée Local Traffic buses on routes around Motherwell and Wishaw. The type was more commonly available in coach spec, many of which passed through the fleet over the years. No prizes for guessing where B948ASU is passing in this picture! Happily this bus still survives to this day albeit preserved in England with Kenzies.

🎶NEWMAINS & DISTRICT BRASS BAND🎶. . 🎶(FORMERLY HUTCHISONS COACHES) 🎶 Does anyone on this page remember Hutchisons Coaches affiliation and proud sponsorship of Newmains Brass Band? Stuart Anderson was a great ambassador for the band. Here is a photo of the band. The band have qualified to represent Newmains & District at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, in September. For more information, or if you'd like to support the band in any way, feel free to get in touch with me.
