🕰️ ON THIS DAY IN WW2 – 22 OCTOBER 1943

🔥 The Night a German City Became an Inferno

On this night in 1943, 569 RAF Lancaster and Halifax bombers headed towards the German city of Kassel.

But Kassel wasn’t just another German city. It was a major centre of military production, home to factories manufacturing the fearsome Tiger tank and components for Germany’s V-1 flying bombs.

The RAF launched a devastating bombing raid that triggered an enormous firestorm. Flames engulfed entire neighbourhoods, temperatures soared, and thousands of civilians lost their lives.

The raid caused immense destruction to both the city’s industrial facilities and residential areas.

💭 Did you know? Kassel was home to the Henschel factory, responsible for producing the legendary Tiger I heavy tank — one of the most recognisable armoured vehicles of the Second World War.

A reminder of how the war was fought not just on the battlefield, but in the factories and cities far behind the front lines.

Born from a father and son’s shared passion for history, our private museum is home to a fascinating collection of genuine Second World War artefacts, each with its own story to tell.

From the soldiers who fought on the front lines to the ordinary people who lived through extraordinary times, our aim is to preserve their stories and ensure they are never forgotten.
