My second shift this morning as a volunteer on the Chain Ferry at Normanton on Soar. There’s been a chain ferry here since 1771, and a ferry crossing of some nature since 1200ad. It’s now one of the last remaining chain ferries in the country, the simplicity of how it operates is brilliant.

The biggest danger, apart from Weils Disease, is that I propose an art project, or suggest they get a Zettle, or worse still ‘offer to help with social media’, so feel free to intervene if any of these things start to happen.

[ID: A still from the film Blue, split across two tiles. Both tiles feature a blue monochrome screen with two captions occupying the bottom third. The lowest yellow caption reads: “A blue, bitter pill. An open mouth.” Above this, bracketed captions in pale blue read: “wind-static with hints of stuttering – widening, faltering.” The latter transcribes the film’s soundscape and the former captures the audio description.]

Extremely sad to share the news that Alison Lloyd passed away last week following a private battle with illness.

Alison was a wonderful friend, artist and collaborator — to many. It was such a pleasure and privilege for and I to work with Alison on her two solo exhibitions and multiple other projects over the past 10+ years at TG and other outlets.

I’ll never forget a wonderful “F**k Off” she said to me in my younger days when I [mistakenly] referred to her as a ‘gatekeeper’ to public funding during her time working for the Arts Council in Nottingham. She correctly informed me that she was in fact a champion of our early project spaces, collectives and studios to her seniors, and fought for our best starts possible.

Alison’s work remains on view at Britain in Women in Revolt! till April 7th, and touring afterwards to & . Her legacy will live strong in her family and the many people she inspired, supported and loved.

Love to Colette, Magnus, Hilary & Val x
