Crafts by the River - Rag Rugs
Join us at the Museum of the Broads on Saturday 20th June for a drop-in rag rug workshop inspired by traditional Broads crafts and recycling techniques from the 19th Century. Meet a 'Marshman's wife' and have a go at making your own rag-rug using traditional tools known as a 'proddy' or 'bodger' tool - can you spot them in the photos?
Taking place 10am to 4pm this event is free with museum admission.
A wonderful chance to discover a traditional craft with a fascinating history!

What does this pike have to do with Swallows and Amazons series author Arthur Ransome?
Well it used to be on the wall of the Horning Ferry Inn which Arthur Ransome often visited. It is mentioned at the end of his book, The Big Six, set on the Norfolk Broads and even makes an appearance in the BBC adaption filmed on location in 1984.
This weekend we are celebrating all things Swallows and Amazons with our event The Coot Club Returns - Free with museum entry.

Can you help?
We are looking for friendly, practical volunteer gardeners who enjoy working outdoors and taking pride in the appearance of the museum grounds. This is a flexible role helping with tasks such as tending flower beds, cutting grass, planting, watering and general tidying, while also helping expand our flower bed areas to bring colour and seasonal interest to the museum. Gardening experience is helpful but not essential and volunteers can work independently or alongside staff and other volunteers.

If you are interested please contact Paula Saulite on [email protected] or on 01692 581681 or come and see us in the museum.

You can always rely on the British summer weather to put a little dampener on things, but don't let the rain stop you from enjoying the Broads. Both of our boats have canopies and of course the museum is under cover. It's the perfect place to visit when the weather has forgotten its summer!

A big thank you to Hoveton Men's Shed for creating these fantastic raised beds for us at the Museum of the Broads. They have transformed the entrance to the Museum and will add plenty of colour and cheer for all our visitors throughout the season.
We really appreciate their hard work and generosity - they look amazing!
