Today, museum staff and volunteers helped serve refreshments at Stalham Christmas Tree Festival in St Mary’s Church.

There are a wonderful array of imaginatively decorated trees at the festival, as well as a range of delicious homemade cakes, mince pies and sausage rolls.

Don’t miss the museum’s tree, decorated with handmade, beaded and knitted wherries and boats!

The festival runs all week from 10.30/4pm.

The Museum may be closed for the winter but our wonderful volunteers are still hard at work!

Marsh Harrier, our electric boat has had a busy summer providing 4 boat trips a day for visitors to the museum. Over the winter she gets a break from the water and a spruce up ready for another busy season.

Thanks to our neighbours at Richardson’s for taking Marsh Harrier out of the water and to our wonderful volunteers for bringing her home safely.

If you would like to join our team of volunteers, please get in touch with Susie or Tanya at the museum. We have a variety of roles available and are sure to have something to suit you.

All of us at the museum were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Mike Fuller last week.

Mike joined us soon after the museum moved from Potter Heigham to Stalham and took on so many big projects, not least helping in the restoration of the steam boat ‘Falcon’ and the construction of a replica of the wherry cuddy based on the wherry ‘Albion’. It was an immediate success and is still loved by all our visitors today.

His knowledge and skill was hugely appreciated and valued, always ready to help in whatever capacity, and always with a smile and enthusiasm. His sense of humour and fun was infectious and he was always ready to share a ‘story’ fired by his passion for The Broads.

We will greatly miss him but his legacy will live on forever at the museum.
