CHEAP FESTIVE DAY OUT - VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS - RUNS ON SELECTED DATES - One of our favourite days out last December was go to Milton Keynes Museum for their Victorian Christmas event. It often SNOWS INSIDE the indoor high street. Last year you got FREE mulled wine and FREE chestnuts and I've been told it's the same this year. There was also a balloon modeller, Christmas crafts and bell ringing, and you could cook toast on a fire - all included. That together with an awesome hands-on telephone gallery, transport area and interactive old toy area still make it one of my top tips for a cool festive day out this year. Just to warn you - when we went previously the snow was a bit sporadic as to when it was on - quite possibly because the museum is mostly run by volunteers - it appears to be the same this year from what some of you have told me.

The Christmas event is NOT on every day. These are the dates and times.
Fridays 6th and 13th December, 4.30pm-7pm
Saturdays 7th and 14th December, 1.30pm-6pm
Sundays8th and 15th December, 1.30pm-6pm

To go to MIlton Keynes Museum it's £10 adult, £7 child, under 5s are free. Or £30 for the family. That ticket gets you in ALL YEAR and includes all their other events. A year is from the date you buy it. If you already have an annual pass then you can just go to the museum for free for this. They do have a Santa which costs extra. If you want to see Santa you have to call the museum and check availability - I don't know.

Here's my UPDATED REVIEW where you can see what's at the museum on an average day >> http://miltonkeyneskids.com/project/milton-keynes-museum/

Kensington Palace

On 10 February 1840, Queen Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg and Gotha.

The couple first met at Kensington Palace in 1836 and Prince Albert made a good first impression. Victoria wrote to her Uncle Leopold after the visit about Albert’s kindness and his 'pleasing and delightful exterior’, though at that time she was too young to marry. However, by the time they met again in October 1839, Victoria was 20 years old and Queen of Britain. She proposed to Albert five days after his arrival and they were married the following year at St James’s Palace.

Have a Victorian Christmas at Milton Keynes Museum!! Thank you to our Wiki Ambassador Rachael!

This was the first year we've been to Milton Keynes Museum for their Victorian themed Christmas and it was amazing! We're now wondering why we haven't gone earlier. With an 8 year old (firm believer) and her 3 year old sister we were met by the welcoming team and they were given a reindeer trail with clues to find each of the reindeer carefully hidden around the museum. We walked into the house to the sound of carols around the log fire and piano and promptly offered mulled wine as we joined in (can you see why we loved it yet?!) The kids loved exploring the Victorian games and music players and were encouraged to play with them which was great. The kids toasted bread on the open fire, weighed their sweets in the old-fashioned sweet shop (while mum and dad had more drinks :-)), danced in the fake snow and then excitedly waited for the elves to call them in to meet Santa. We've visited plenty of grotto's over the years BUT this was just perfect, especially for those kids who might have outgrown the other options. A real plus was it was brilliant for the kids to have their own time with Santa. He joked with them, asked them what they wanted, told them they had the best Christmas jumpers (they loved that!) and then gave them both a fab little present. He also had the best Santa bowl for of jelly belly laugh ever! What's more, we weren't rushed, we didn't pay for our photos, we had a magical afternoon and learnt a thing or two along the way. Top marks from us! 🙂

Can't believe this is the last Victorian Christmas weekend 2019 coming up. Santa has been very busy but I think you can pre book up until mid day tomorrow, otherwise it will be book on the day. There are some lovely craft stalls in the new building, ranging from christmas cakes and mince pies, fresh artisan breads, to sweet trees, knitted decorations, gifts, jewelery, hand made bags and wooden toys and wreaths. It's well worth a look for stocking fillers and extra treats.
