Artist spotlight on Jill Jones who joined the gallery a few months back.

Jill Jones FRSA, is based in Pembrokeshire and paints in either oils or acrylics from her purpose-built studio and gallery.
Her love of Wales is evident in her work, which alongside bold and vibrant abstracts, features huge, glorious skies, gentle
moonlit scenes and wild images of the unspoilt Welsh countryside. Dramatic seas, florals and enigmatic bygone
architecture also feature in both semi-abstract and impressionist
style pieces.

☀️Artist spotlight Amanda Freeman:☀️

Here’s a little about our talented resident artist Mandy Freeman.

I returned to college in my late 50s and joyfully completed my ceramics degree in 2018. My work is inspired by the natural surroundings and coastline found here in Pembrokeshire.
I have always been intrigued by the patterns found within nature be it pebbles, rock pools, cliffs, twisted wood, bark or seed pods.

The moon jars in this collection are inspired by the coastal colours and textures found underwater. Each piece is hand built using stoneware clay, oxides, coloured slips and glaze.

Amanda always has a fabulous display of pots, jewelry and lately copper spoons. All of which make beautiful gifts, or maybe just a treat for yourself 😉

Pop in to the Waterfront Gallery Monday to Saturday 10.30-4.00.

🌊 Artist Spotlight- Terry Davies 🐟

Born in Borth, West Wales - with roots stretching back four centuries - my art has never really left the Ceredigion coast, even after decades lecturing and making work in Australia, with detours through US workshops and residencies.

My recurring fish and crustacea aren’t just images. They’re food, memory, survival - the language of a place that fed generations before me.

Growing up, I heard the last of the old Welsh-speaking storytellers: seafarers with a lifetime of tales, and women whose quiet stoicism carried Borth through tragedy after tragedy. You didn’t need the classics to understand the human condition here, you just had to grow up in this sea-girt village.

I was hunter, fisher, gatherer before I was ever an artist - learning the seasons, the limits, the duty of care that keeps a place alive.

The Welsh have a word for it: brogarwch-love of place. It’s the root of everything I make.

Each drawing is a kind of ceremony, zoomorphic, shape-shifted, half-memory and half-magic.

Where past and present gather to charge old themes with new emotion.

I call this imagined, willed-into-being world Coastal Pastoral.

Meet the Maker: Carole Fletcher -Textile Artist 🧵

Carole’s work begins in the everyday - a walk through the garden, a stroll along the coast. It doesn’t take much to catch her eye. “An ivy leaf can stop me in my tracks,” she says.

She’s drawn to textiles because they’re a medium we all share a connection to — woven into our lives from the moment we’re born. Using slow, traditional processes like feltmaking, stitching, shibori, and dyeing, Carole roots her work in social history as much as material.

Every piece starts with close observation — sketching, photography, painting — and countless samples exploring texture and pattern. It’s this slow, careful looking that lets her notice what others might walk straight past.

Come see Carole’s work at the Waterfront Gallery. 🌿

🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Suzanne Nicholl 🎨

Waterfront Gallery is proud to present the work of Suzanne Nicholl - an expressive landscape artist whose paintings are rooted in the wild, rugged beauty of Pembrokeshire.

Suzanne’s lifelong connection to this ancient coastline runs through every painting and ceramic piece: windswept headlands, industrial remnants, wild energy, myth and memory - captured through expressive mark-making and textured abstraction.

Her journey into art began after a 30-year career in healthcare. In 2019, she rekindled her creative path at Malvern School of Art, later developing her practice at Newlyn School of Art in Cornwall. Drawing inspiration from Joan Eardley, Barbara Rae and Joan Mitchell, Suzanne channels emotion and environment into vibrant compositions that straddle abstraction and landscape.

Her process starts outdoors — immersed in weather and tide, sketching, painting, and gathering found materials that become the seeds of layered studio works in acrylic, oil and mixed media.

Come experience the raw, shifting essence of the Welsh coast at the Waterfront Gallery throughout the summer 🌊
