New exhibition alert!! November 28, 2026, The Hub in Sleaford presents a major exhibition celebrating the work of Dr. Dresser. This exhibition will reposition Dresser within the design canon through key loans from private collections and expert insights. The Hub will display an array of Dresser’s objects, many of which are examples of his work, ranging from ceramic vessels and metalwork to furniture and textiles. Alongside Dresser, four contemporary artists will be exhibited whose practices challenge and echo Dresser’s morals and ideals, exploring intersections of craft, design, and industrial production today. Happy Birthday Christopher!
Today marks the 192nd anniversary of the birth of the foremost industrial designer of the nineteenth century, Dr Christopher Dresser, the man who brought design to the masses and brought together Western and Eastern design.
Born in Glasgow, his influence is worldwide, his work is greatly sought after, and the largest collection is to be found in Middlesbrough, at the Dorman Museum.

An audience that is local to the Dorman Museum but who may not all have appreciated the significance of Dresser or the Linthorpe Pottery.

The Dresser designs on our festive mantelpiece behind door 25 are a Perry and Company Kordofan chamberstick, a blue Linthorpe Pottery posy vase, a Liberty spun brass candle holder, a seasonally red Linthorpe Pottery bottle vase and a Linthorpe Pottery jug.

The panic buying stage of the festive season is upon us. Everybody knows that practical items always make the best gifts - like this Kenrick and Sons cast iron coal shovel – or perhaps the hardware store was the only shop open late on Christmas Eve.

Making preparations for welcoming guests for Christmas dinner – time to source some extra chairs. Behind door 23 is a Dresser designed wooden dining chair made by Thomas Knight of Bath and retailed by Liberty.

The Christmas owl, or 'chrowl’ has appeared on festive ornaments since Victorian times. Behind door 22 is a soup dish from the Old Hall Earthenware Company, with a Christopher Dresser designed floral/owl motif.
