Cherryburn NT The birthplace of Thomas Bewick
(42)

Thomas Bewick is perhaps Northumberland’s greatest artist: a wood engraver and naturalist who revolutionized print art in Georgian England. Discover his tiny birthplace cottage and farmyard with glorious views over the Tyne Valley, plus a traditional 19th-century farmhouse, the later home of the Bewick family, with an unrivalled collection of his work and an exhibition about his life. Follow Bewick’s wood blocks on their journey to the print room, where regular Sunday afternoon demonstrations bring alive this intricate craft, or explore the delightful cottage gardens, farmyard and paddock walk, perfect for picnicking or playing with the kids. Cool off with an ice cream on the lawn or enjoy a warm homemade scone and a coffee in the farmhouse kitchen.

How do you notice nature?

If we take time to notice and connect with nature in small, everyday ways, we’re more likely to take action to protect it. Findings of our Noticing Nature report in partnership with the University of Derby, show even simple actions like watching the clouds go by or listening to birdsong can make a difference: http://ow.ly/1n5m50yxbKN

This is Ember. Ember is one of many bushfire victims currently being treated at the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, a property looked after by the National Trust of Australia in Queensland.

Supporting our partner, the National Trust of Australia, we're raising awareness of the fires that are still consuming the country. This is a tragedy for wildlife, nature and the people of Australia. With the support of volunteers and staff at the Currumbin Hospital, Ember and many others are being treated for their burns and dehydration. Help us spread the word for wildlife and support our overseas partner: https://currumbinsanctuary.com.au/hospital
