Situated on the South side of picturesque Mere, the new Beaumont Gallery is set up as a
multi-purpose arts centre hosting a rolling exhibition of work. Artists Andrew Walworth and Laura Rich are joined by potter Ed Duckworth, and all work full time in the buildings. They will also be exhibiting work by resident artists - sculptor Sarah Coward, painter Hilary Turnbull, local artist and sculptor Ric
hard Howell. The gallery runs weekly classes in Life Drawing, Pottery and Painting which are already proving
popular attracting all levels and ages of artists who are happy to travel to the new centre. Andrew and Laura have also forged links with Gillingham School offering their experience and
knowledge in Life Drawing to the school’s A Level art students. They hope to develop their work with senior schools in particular. The Gallery space itself is the former drawing office of the chimney factory with the working
studios occupying the former canteen and part of the drawing office. The space has been
adapted to show the artwork being created on-site but we have been careful to retain the
industrial features of the building, which are a celebration of commercial architecture of the
period. The steel girders to the ceiling are a work of art in themselves! The long term aim of our new Gallery is to host exhibitions and workshops throughout the year, including solo and dual shows by invited artists. It’s been the most fantastic project to get our new Gallery open and we look forward to welcoming all those who have visited us before plus of course anyone who is interested in art or interested to see what we’ve done with the factory space. The Beaumont Gallery will be open Monday to Saturday
10.00am – 4.00pm from Saturday 7 November. Visitors are always welcome - there will always be something to see or an artist to talk to – plus coffee and if you’re lucky some homemade cake!”
