The Summerhouse Gallery is a beautiful space that shows a wide variety of paintings, bespoke jewellery, ceramics and glass. The aim is to provide a welcoming environment that shows the very best of Cornish/South West linked artists. Whilst a visitor may recognise established w

ork by painters such as Michael Strang, Mike Hindle, John Piper and Michael Praed; there is also the opportunity to discover new, rising talents - Kate Richardson and Imogen Bone to name just two. The Summerhouse endeavours to have a selection of work on show that cannot be found anywhere else. Since opening in June 2011, The Summerhouse Gallery has received nothing but praise from the press and public alike. Cornwall Today said: ‘In just a few months, The Summerhouse has established itself as one of the best galleries in West Cornwall’ whilst ‘this is cornwall’ described the ‘Winter Light’ exhibition as ‘the perfect antidote to the winter blues’. The future is bright for The Summerhouse Gallery. Whether you are local to the area or a visitor, an art enthusiast or simply a person with a small interest in artwork; one thing is sure. A new collection by Diane Whalley

Diane Whalley is a self-taught contemporary artist based in Cornwall. Painting intuitively from personal reflections and imagination, she uses playful gestures, expressive marks and vibrant colour to create layered compositions that invite interpretation and discussion.

Her experiences of life in Cornwall and travelling the Mediterranean by sailboat have greatly influenced her creative practice. Beginning with a thought, idea, memory or emotion, each piece evolves instinctively, often developing into a vibrant visual narrative. Diane is also known to paint over previous works, enjoying the idea that each finished painting holds a hidden history beneath its surface.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design, Diane spent several years working in design and PR before beginning her journey with painting in 2016 and becoming a full-time artist in 2019. Following a successful London show in early 2020, her work has attracted growing interest from collectors and interior designers.

Working from her studio in Cornwall, Diane continues to draw inspiration from the landscape, coastal life, travel and memories of her family’s Mediterranean adventures.

It’s been an amazing summer so far and, while Marazion remains wonderfully busy, we haven’t had many moments to pause, take a breather and really look around the gallery to take it all in. ☺️

Our displays change so quickly, so it’s lovely to capture each fleeting moment, even if it’s not quite picture perfect!

So here she is, just as we find her at the end of a busy day: paintings needing a little straightening, artworks waiting to be carefully wrapped and shipped off to their new homes, and there’s an ice cream spillage on the doormat which needs addressing 😆

It’s all part of the joy of a busy summer in the gallery, and we’re enjoying every minute of it. ❤️
