Located in the ancient charter town of Marazion and simply a stone's throw away from the sea lies The Summerhouse Gallery. The Summerhouse Gallery is a beautiful space that shows a wide variety of paintings, bespoke jewellery, ceramics and glass. The aim is to provide a welcoming environment that shows the very best of Cornish/South West linked artists. Whilst a visitor may recognise established w

ork by painters such as Michael Strang, Mike Hindle, John Piper and Michael Praed; there is also the opportunity to discover new, rising talents - Kate Richardson and Imogen Bone to name just two. The Summerhouse endeavours to have a selection of work on show that cannot be found anywhere else. Since opening in June 2011, The Summerhouse Gallery has received nothing but praise from the press and public alike. Cornwall Today said: ‘In just a few months, The Summerhouse has established itself as one of the best galleries in West Cornwall’ whilst ‘this is cornwall’ described the ‘Winter Light’ exhibition as ‘the perfect antidote to the winter blues’. The future is bright for The Summerhouse Gallery. Whether you are local to the area or a visitor, an art enthusiast or simply a person with a small interest in artwork; one thing is sure. What a week! Summer has well and truly arrived, and it’s been so lovely to see Marazion full of happy faces ☺️

Here’s a little look around the gallery for anyone who hasn’t been able to visit us yet! We’re currently showing a large collection of work by Michael Praed, alongside a mixed artist collection that gives a glimpse of the variety of work we have available. So many different styles under one roof, and we love every one of them!

Looking ahead, we have a feature exhibition for Iona Sanders opening in mid-June, alongside a mixed artist show. Then, on July 10th, we’ll be opening the doors to Kit Johns’ solo show, always a highlight of the year!

New works by Jill Hudson are making their way to the gallery soon ✨

Inspired by long coastal walks, vivid summer colour, and moments of quiet daydreaming in the studio, these new oil paintings capture Jill’s personal experience of Cornwall in summer, where crocosmia and gorse blaze against turquoise-green seas.

“Sometimes I wonder if the colours are too much… but when the sun is out along the coast path, it really is that vivid.”

From narrative still lifes to scenes gathered from her coastal roamings, each painting holds fragments of observation, memory, and atmosphere.

Sophie has been exhibiting with The Summerhouse since 2023, and her striking fish paintings have become a firm favourite with our collectors. Working in acrylic, Sophie’s vibrant use of colour brings a wonderful sense of joy, energy, and optimism to any space.

 Practicing in a highly intuitive way, Helen patiently applies multiple veils of oil paint in calming natural hues, exploring how cherished moments with loved ones leave their traces.

 Taking inspiration from her memories and daydreams of the patterns, lines, colours and forms found in nature, Helen’s paintings hold a meditative dream-like quality, inviting a moment to slow down, pause and reflect.
