In the Red Army since 1941. He graduated from courses for junior lieutenants. In the battles of the Great Patriotic War - since January 1942.

Alexey Kononenko distinguished himself in the battles for the liberation of Crimea. On the Perekop Isthmus, the enemy created a dense defensive network, a large number of pillboxes and bunkers. In preparation for the offensive in this sector, it was decided that the main task, with the support of regimental artillery and other units, would be performed by the company of senior lieutenant Kononenko. On April 9, 1944, commanding the assault detachment of the battalion near the village of Perekop, Kononenko roused the soldiers in a bayonet attack and captured an important height on the move. Bursting into enemy positions, the fighters destroyed 3 bunkers with hand and anti-tank gr***des and blocked the enemy's escape routes from the Shchemilovka farm. Having met with his detachment large enemy forces with three "Ferdinands", Senior Lieutenant Kononenko bravely entered the battle. Alyoshin was a Soviet officer, participant of the Great Patriotic War. He was the deputy commander of the 2nd rifle battalion for the combat unit of the 724th rifle regiment of the 315th Rifle Division of the 51st army Southern Front.

He served in the Red Army from 1932 to 1934 and from 1940. Completed training courses for junior lieutenants.

On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since 1941. He took part in the battles for the liberation of Kerch and the Kerch Peninsula. He was badly wounded. Upon recovery, he took a direct part in the battles at Stalingrad .

Since October 13th, 1943, Alyoshin has been participating in offensive battles to capture the city of Melitopol . He personally knocked out two enemy tanks with gr***des , and in total during the battles in the city of Melitopol, the soldiers of Captain Alyoshin's unit repulsed more than twenty counterattacks by N**i tanks and infantry, destroyed a large number of enemy manpower and four medium tanks.
