The walking tour will also visit the statue of, and memorial to, one of Manchester’s proudest adopted sons: Alan Turing. Turing was a trailblazing mathematician, is considered the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence, and his work to decode N**i Germany’s communications is said to have shortened WW2 by up to 2 years, no doubt saving countless lives. You can find out more about his life and career by watching the film “The Imitation Game” (2014), staring Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing.

The walking tour will also visit the statue of Emmeline Pankhurst. Emmeline and her daughters were the beating heart of the Suffragette movement in Manchester, but also helped drive forward the campaign for votes for women nationally.
