The Boating Lake, now the Duck Pond in Priory Park 🦆.

The outdoor swimming pool was off to the left, so for those who wanted, they could swim! This probably included locals, such as CSLewis and his visiting friend, JRRTolkien. And let’s not forget the drunk punks who filled this park in the 1970s!

But, of course, the pond was originally a spring-filled fishing lake for the Benedictine monks of the Priory.

This photo was donated to the museum and shows the Tank Quarry that remained open until 1974.

The people of Malvern had to endure the constant explosions. The sound of new, large scale industry with intrusive banging was considered evil by those watching their natural landscape disappear.

These changes even helped inspire themes in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings🧝🏻‍♂️

It took until 1977 for the Board of Conservators, formed in 1884, to close all the quarries.

This 4th of July, Malvern Museum is launching Donkey Dash🫏 !!!

Little explorers can enjoy our fun-filled Donkey Dash trail, hunting for hidden donkeys, completing donkey-themed challenges, and following the trail around the museum.

Along the way, they'll discover the fascinating story of Malvern's donkeys and the important role they played in the town's history.

Best of all – children visit the museum for FREE! (Children must be accompanied by at least one paying adult.)

Drop in anytime between 10:30am and 4:00pm – no booking needed.
