The Heritage Centre was built in 2016 with assistance from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund and others. Opened in March 2018, it houses a few lighthouse associated artifacts but primarily focuses on the history of the airfield at Lossiemouth and it's resident units and personnel.

We display uniformed mannequins, models and small items of memorabilia – particularly photographs, written histories and memories.

For larger pieces of hardware, we also recommend a visit to Morayvia approximately 12 miles to the west. There you will find real aircraft including every type of Search and Rescue Helicopter (Royal Navy and Royal Air Force) plus complete fighter aircraft and sections of others, many of which can be sat in.

Access to the tower and Heritage Centre is currently by appointment only, to book email: [email protected]

Iron Tower
The Halliman Skerries Beacon was completed in 1845. It is an iron structure 14m in height, constructed of six columns of cast iron with horizontal bracing. The columns are surmounted by a cylindrical open iron cage with a cross on top.
This served as a place of refuge for shipwrecked mariners. An iron platform and ladder within the columned structure provided access from ground level to the cage.

The beacon was designed and built at the same time as the lighthouse by the Northern Lighthouse Board engineer Alan Stevenson who also designed the tower and cottages.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. 🌺
