Date: 15 July - 6 September 2026

Join us for an exciting programme of exhibitions, performances, workshops and more, celebrating the histories, communities and creative practices that shape the East End.

Find us throughout the Biennial as we share videos of community gathering, solidarity and protest in collaboration with London Community Video Archive and Oitij-Jo Collective in the Zilkha Auditorium at Whitechapel Gallery.

Our three organisations will also come together for a special screening and discussion event on Wednesday 22nd July at the Zilkha Auditorium. Mark it in your calendars and watch this space for more information.

Meet another one of our four corners residents!

James Whittaker is a documentary photographer, who works in the co-working space on the third floor. He focuses on long-form, multi-year projects exploring the nature of public space.

@whittakerjd

Tell us a bit about the co-work space?

The third floor is a bit of a sanctuary which helps me compartmentalise work and home life. I keep my equipment there and it acts as a base for scanning, editing, and going out to shoot.

There is a huge diversity of skills in the office – photographers, filmmakers, graphic designers – and always someone to bounce an idea off. There is the right balance of getting your head-down on days where work needs to be done and social, creative interaction over a coffee on the balcony on slower days.

What are you working on at the moment?

I have an upcoming exhibition in the Four Corners Gallery showing a two-year project documenting support for Palestine in East London. It brings together hundreds of expressions of solidarity, from protest and community action to quieter everyday gestures

Your favourite place to eat on Roman Road?

The Globe Town Food Court opposite does amazing khichuri (rice and dahl) with beef jhura (Bengali beef - curried, shredded, then fried) for breakfast and lunch (only £2!). I appreciate curry for breakfast isn’t for everyone, in which case the beef seekh kebab in the evenings is great. Just be careful of the naga! 🌶️ 🥵

Pubs!

Two classic East End pubs – The Florist and The Camel - are less than a 3-minute walk away.

What's your favourite thing about FC?

Four Corners’ exhibitions and associated events are great to have downstairs. Finishing work at 6pm and popping down for an exhibition opening is a unique benefit of being on the third floor.

Our Four Corners Community ....

Meet our Garden Office residents Tom and Lucy from Yes Please Productions

is a creative agency specialising in visuals for the music industry. This means we work on all kinds of projects and are currently creating screen content for Ed Sheeran's tour which kicks off early next year. We're also finalising some online advertising for the Stranger Things Season 5 Soundtrack, rounding off a fun and varied year.

We asked them for their favourite local locations. Here's what they said...

What's your favourite cinema?

The Genesis on Whitechapel Road. A great independent cinema, the current owners purchased the derelict building in 1999 and transformed it for the local community. It was recently saved from re-development, so hopefully The Genesis can secure its future longer term.

What's your favourite Gallery?

The new-ish Gilbert and George gallery just off Brick Lane on Heneage Street is a fantastic space. The artists have lived and created art from their home in Spitalfields since 1968 so it's really fitting that the gallery opened here.

What's your favourite community space?

Do gig venues count as community spaces?...I f so, shout out to The Seabright Arms, a fantastic pub with a great gig space downstairs featuring regular free gigs that showcase up-and-coming acts.

Where's your favourite place to eat on Roman Road?

We are discovering lots of great food options on the Roman Road, but two particular favourites are the freshly made Gözleme from E&R Natural

UrbanAnalogue is pleased to announce the relaunch of their International Urban Photography Summer School (iUPSS), previously held at Goldsmiths College for a decade. This intensive summer school is now held in the heart of the London’s East End district at our Film and Photography centre.

Summer School dates are: 17-28 August 2026

UrbanAnalogue took a break during the Pandemic, and now are very much back with an expanded programme, great new partnerships with The International Visual Sociology Association (IVSA), the Urban Photographers Association (UPA), Four Corners, The London Peace Centre, UCL, along with a line-up of outstanding international artists, photographers and research-based urbanists.

The summer school includes practice workshops, lectures, photowalks and tutorials. Participants will produce three small visual exercises focusing on place, people and material cultures. After discussion with their personal tutor, participants will work on a more in-depth visual project examining an aspect of London’s urban life and materiality. These projects will form the basis of an individual portfolio and a pop-up exhibition at Four Corners as part of the Whitechapel Gallery’s Backyard Biennial.

This is a focused and immersive learning experience, and will be of particular interest to artists, photographers, filmmakers, sociologists, anthropologists, historians, geographers, architectural researchers, archivists and those seeking a deeper understanding of, and engagement with the visual cultures of contemporary and historical urban spaces.

Costs are: £1450 with a 10% discount for Four Corners members, plus a further 10% discount for students and those receiving benefits.
