As 2022 comes to a close, Dr. Owens can confirm it has been a successful year both archaeologically (stints in Egypt & Peru) and for tours. He is grateful for all those who took the time to donate to his KHD (Egypt) project and supported his efforts to save this important site and for all who he was privileged to spend their time working with him.

Teaching young and old on his many tours and at various universities this year has been as enriching for him as it has for his audiences.

2023 is on the horizon and we are now taking requests for tours starting with dates starting with 28 January 2023.

If you, (like Dr. Owens)...are wondering when the world will return to some sense of normalcy...you are not alone. What we do hope is to be able to have some walking tours in the fall, until such time that galleries and museums may once again open safely. The hope is that perhaps mid-September this may be a reality for at least those able to get to London or live nearby. Fingers crossed!

In the meantime, those who are looking for their Owens' fix may get a glimpse on a series hosted by his colleague Prof. Peter Eeckhout, ArKeo, which is available on Prime Video. Specifically, check out Episode 11. The link is below or check your location's Amazon Prime Video offerings.

Cheers to all. Stay safe!

Not long ago, before we huddled in place due to COVID-19, Dr. Owens encountered Bog bodies at the National Museum in Dublin, Ireland. You will hear him speak about Bog bodies on the previously mentioned History Hack podcast but primarily about Mummies! Here are some Bog Body visuals.

During these days of social distancing, the idea has been proposed by some of Dr. Owens' clientele, that perhaps he should offer a Virtual tour option. What virtual tour options might interest you and/or your family or friends? Let us hear your thoughts! 😄

Update April 28: After much reflection & brainstorming, it was determined that if we were unable to sort a "virtual tour" that was on an even par with the actual in person experience one would have with Lawrence, we did not wish to disappoint any of you with less than one might expect from the fabulous Dr. Owens.

We hope you are all well and safe. Once the world opens up again, in all its magnificent glory, we will be open for bookings, per usual! Let us hope it is not a long wait!

Cheers and thank you for your patience!

We are all going through incredibly odd days at present. This of course is affecting Dr. Owens ability to offer tours as we all hunker down in place. Currently all of the tours are on hold until things change for the better. All we can do now is hope that this temporary situation is under control soon and that this horrible cloud is lifted sooner rather than later. Take care all and stay healthy and safe. Life will once again be normal and Lawrence will be there to bring a bit of adventure and fun to all, as before! Please do sent requests if you have plans to visit UK and we will hold a place for you on the schedule with fingers crossed that things will change for the better soon🤞 😁

Please consider joining the team by contributing to this important project!

We are in the field! This is me at work (see new profile pic) and beyond me there is a full trench full of sweating workers, guftis (skilled Egyptian supervisors) and hapless students all shovelling fit to bust in 45 degree heat. We need another ÂŁ2000 to get this project finished or else we may have to close early! Please help if you can! And check out www.echoegyptianheritage.tumblr.com for daily updates!

WE ARE ALMOST THERE!

In three weeks the whole team will be winging its way to Egypt for the new season at KHD! We have pottery specialists and conservators and diggers and bones people and all sorts...it's not going to be a huge excavation but it's going to be an epic one and it's all thanks to people like you supporting us. So thank you!

And if you haven't contributed yet PLEASE do consider it - every little goes a long way and we do have a lot to achieve in a very short five weeks of digging! It is going to be terribly odd not having Tass with us for this season, to which looked forward so long and eagerly, yet we are determined to do him proud and provoke blizzards of publications and monographs from this and future seasons at the site.

We have people preparing the adoption certificates already, so if you want to name a mummy after yourself or a friend (or enemy!) just let us know when you donate and we will be happy to oblige...!

See you soon!

Geoffrey Tassie obituary

https://www.gofundme.com/adopt-an-ancient-mummyskeleton-and-save-a-site

Dear all. Just a quick update to let you know how well we are doing...and it’s really well! We had surpassed our target yet again and that’s wonderful news! We have also cleared the very last bureaucratic hurdle we had to contend with, and have received security clearance for the dig, so in that sense we couldn’t be happier. With good news comes bad, however, and I am very sad to have to report the sudden and unexpected passing of my dear friend and colleague Dr Geoffrey Tassie. Tass’ enthusiasm for this site and project date back over twenty years, and his dearest wish was to return to it this summer, so his colleagues and I are determined to do everything we can to make this season a fruitful one:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2019/apr/10/geoffrey-tassie-obituary?CMP=share_btn_fb&fbclid=IwAR0nWaa2IpajiKYvIdXmVNjrE-ZhwHRMY4y7HZYjqUv9WXJnbu9z46t40KQ

We are therefore bringing in more manpower to the field and behind the scenes to maximise our efforts, and are reaching out to you once more as we boost our intended target to £12,000. So if you haven’t yet donated, please do consider it now. As an added incentive, a professional designer has donated her time and effort to the cause, and has produced an exclusive T-shirt design for the project, which will only be available to project personnel and anyone who donates - or has donated - £200 or above. So please do dig deep, so we can.

If one of your new year's resolutions was to support world heritage, why not sponsor an ancient Egyptian mummy or skeleton? More buried treasure that ever is being found in the UK!

The number of new treasure discoveries by members of the public hit a record level of 1,120 in 2016. This is the highest annual figure since the Treasure Act came into law exactly 20 years ago.

Highlights include two late Bronze Age hoards from Driffield, East Yorkshire, a hoard of 2,114 Roman coins from Piddletrenthide, Dorset, and an Anglo-Saxon grave assemblage from Winfarthing, Norfolk, where this pendant was found.

The Life of Owens

I am a bioarchaeologist and biological anthropologist, living and working in London.

I teach human osteology and related subjects during term time, although I spend as much time as I can away on projects in Peru, Egypt, Bolivia, Ghana, and South Africa, among others.

I also take tours around London, and enjoy teaching kids about history, art and archaeology, which I dress up with a Horrible Histories approach that sneaks in a lot of knowledge under the guise of revolting observation.

However, I live for fieldwork, and have been travelling about doing archaeological digs on five continents since 1992.
