Our Story
No. 7 Hammersmith Terrace is the last authentic Arts & Crafts interior in Britain and the former home of Emery Walker; typographer, antiquary and friend and mentor to William Morris.
The sober Georgian exterior of our tall terraced house on the River Thames at Hammersmith, west London, hides a secret; its interior is an Arts & Crafts gem, with the decoration and furnishings preserved as they were in the lifetime of the printer Emery Walker who lived here from 1903-1933.
As you enter 7 Hammersmith Terrace you will discover wallpapers and carpets by William Morris, furniture and glassware by Philip Webb and embroidery by May Morris. This is to name but a few of the protagonists who, through their close friendships with Emery Walker, have helped to create the lively and beautiful interiors you can still experience today.

Somebody uploaded an image of Emery Walker - a drawing - half an hour ago or so, but now I can't find it. Can you help - and am I allowed to use it for a leaftet this fall? I have written several books and pieces involving Emery Walker - and C. Volmer Nordlunde. This year it is 130 years ago, that E.M. and William Morris made an agreement to start printing, and it is 130 years ago that C. Volmer Nordlunde was born.
